Due to resonance by the sample, resonant frequencies will be dominant in the signal and by performing a mathematical operation called a Fourier Transform on the signal, the frequency response can be calculated. In this way, Fourier Transform Spectrometer can produce the same kind of spectrum as a conventional spectrometer but in a much shorter time. The principles of the Fourier Transform approach can be compared to the behaviour of a musical tuning fork. If a tuning fork is exposed to sound waves of varying frequencies, it will vibrate when the sound wave frequencies are in ‘tune’. This is similar to conventional spectroscopic techniques, where the radiation frequency is varied and those frequencies where the sample is in ‘tune’ with the radiation detected. The response from a sample exposed to a pulse of radiation is a signal consisting primarily of the characteristic frequencies for that sample. The Fourier Transform is a mathematical technique for determining these characteristic frequencies from a single composite signal.

    Answering a growing demand for radiation dose reduction in cardiac CT scanning, GE Healthcare announced the release of “SnapShot Pulse” at a national meeting earlier this month. This advancement in technology will achieve up to an 83% reduction in the patient’s radiation exposure as well as improve image quality. Los Angeles CT Scan expert explains. In a few decades, as many as 2 percent of all cancers in the United States might be due to radiation from CT scans given now, according to the authors of a recent report in the New England Journal of Medicine. A CT scan of the chest involves 10 to 15 millisieverts (a measure of dose) versus 0.01 to 0.15 for a regular chest X ray, 3 for a mammogram and a mere 0.005 for a dental X ray. The dose depends on the type of machine and the person — obese people require more radiation than slim ones — and the risk accumulates over a lifetime. Cardiac CT scanning Los Angeles has, in the last few years, has been increasingly become part of the diagnostic armamentarium available to cardiologists in their quest for an early and accurate diagnosis of heart disease in selected patient populations. This is performed when mesothelioma is in an advanced form and is impossible to cure. Chemotherapy This is the most commonly known cure of cancer. Chemotherapy uses drugs to treat mesothelioma although many of these drugs have a poor success rate on patients. Combinations of drugs are often used to improve their effect. Some of these combinations have proved to be effective. Chemotherapy of mesothelioma is being improved regularly as research labs and pharmaceutical companies are discovering new and more effective drugs. Radiation Therapy Radiation therapy uses radiation to kill the tumour which mesothelioma creates. However, this procedure is extremely difficult because of where the tumour grows. Due to the closeness of the tumour and many vital internal organs such as the heart and lungs, doctors have to be very careful as to the doses of radiation they use. Lower radiation doses can be used however this lowers its effectiveness. Dual Therapy This is often used and is just a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy combined. Surgery removes the majority of the tumour cells while chemotherapy and radiation therapy work on removing the remainder. This is an effective method and also lessens the symptoms of the cancer.

An optical pyrometer the frequency emitted by an electrically heated filament is matched with the frequency of the radiation emitted by the hot object/material under test. When the two match they are the same temperature. The temperature of the filament is obtained by referring to tables of data and operating conditions. In a radiation pyrometer the radiation emitted from the object/material under test is detected using sensor such as a thermocouple.
