The Stress Of People Who Stutter

    #1

Many people become affected by different levels of stress. This stress may be caused by worrying about money, work, relationships, health, family, holidays, moving house or many other daily issues. For certain people who live life with a stuttering problem, stress can have an altogether different meaning. As well as worrying about all of the above issues they have many other things to stress about, things that fluent people just take for granted and see as very simple tasks/events. I will take as an example a young man who is eighteen years of age, I will call him Peter. Peter has had a problem with his speech for as long as he can remember and has what is known as a stutter or stammer. Despite attending regular speech therapy classes, Peter has continued to be affected by this form of speech impediment and is starting to become very concerned about the future. The first area of concern for Peter is his career prospects. He worries that quite a lot of employers may be reluctant to employ somebody who has a speech impediment and even if he is able to gain employment he worries about how he will cope in the workplace when he is unable to talk fluently. Routine tasks such as answering the telephone, having a conversation with a colleague, having a meeting with his team leader are things that cause Peter a lot of stress. This stress is affecting Peter before he has even got the job, what will he be like therefore once he has one. Peter also stresses about love and marriage. He has yet to have a girlfriend, which he puts down to his lack of overall confidence and ability to chat them up. He would however dearly love to meet a woman with whom he could call his own girlfriend but worries that no girl/woman would want to date somebody who has a stutter. Even if he were to meet a girl, he then worries about all of the social aspects that go with having a girlfriend, such as meeting her parents and friends. Peter has never been one for socialising and prefers to spend time on his own relaxing. When he is on his own Peter never has a problem with speech and can say any word without the fear of stuttering. Marriage is something Peter is almost certain he will not be getting involved with. The thought of having to stand up in front of a crowd of people, to give a speech, fills him up with dread. Peter can not imagine himself ever having the courage or confidence to be able to do that. For people out there who are stressed about something, spare a thought for people who stutter as they have probably got it a whole lot worse than you.

Factoring Invoices Financing For Small Business Owners

    #1

Peter owns a successful business that is growing quickly. Like many businesses, Peter’s company has good commercial and government clients that buy regularly from him. And since Peter is really good at his business, his clients have been purchasing more and more products from him. His business appears solid. But some cracks are starting to appear in the foundation. He’s been close to missing payroll twice. He’s delaying supplier payments. Even worse, he chose not to bid for a major government contract because he couldn’t afford to. That’s true – he couldn’t afford to bid for new business. He was afraid of having to add more employees and buy more materials. How can that be? Like most business owners, Peter extends terms to his clients. They usually pay him in 30 to 45 days. But, since Peter runs a small business, his suppliers demand that he pay them in 10 days. Plus employees need to be paid every two weeks. In summary. Peter has clients that want to pay in 45 days and suppliers/employees that want to be paid in 10. Since the company does not have a lot of money in the bank, the math doesn’t work. Is there a solution? Yes, Peter should consider factoring his invoices to fix his cash flow. Factoring will provide him with the necessary cash to pay suppliers and employees, while eliminating the 30 to 45 day wait to get paid. Invoice factoring works as follows: 1. You deliver the product or service and invoice your client 2. You send a copy of the invoice to the factoring company for financing 3. The factoring company advances you up to 90% of the invoice. You get immediate funds. 4. Once your client pays the invoice, the transaction is settled With factoring, Peter will be able to meet his current obligations. His company will also have enough cash on hand (or liquidity) to bid on new job proposals, allowing him to grow the business and take it to the next level.

Trade Management Equals Win Or Broke

    #1

Importance of Trade Management Do you know that even though a group of traders buy the same stocks or options at the same time, some of them may become millionaires over time and some of them simply go broke? All things equal, the most important factor that determines if you would become a millionaire (or billionaire?) or a complete loser over time trading in the stock markets is not how accurately you can pick stocks but how you manage your trades! Yes, portfolio management, or on a more micro scale, trade management, is the only factor that determines whether you make it or not in the stock markets! Trade Management Example John and Peter are 2 stock traders who agreed at the same time that XYZ company stock is bullish and decided to buy XYZ stocks together. XYZ is trading at $10. John and Peter have $1000 each. John decided to put all his money into XYZ stocks and bought 100 shares of XYZ stocks. Peter decided to stick to his trade management strategy of using no more than 30% of his equity into any one trade. Peter then bought 30 shares of XYZ stocks. As it turned out, stocks that are expected to go up usually come straight down. Instead of going up, XYZ company stocks fell from $10 to $6 within a few days. Both traders decided to sell their positions in order to preserve equity. John is left with $600 while Peter still has $880. Both traders then bought ABC company stocks trading at $20 with the same trade management strategy. ABC rallied from $20 to $35 and both traders sold their positions. John is now up to $1050 while Peter is now up $1078. Peter remains ahead of John on the same moves while risking only 30% of his equity. Both traders then bought RAT company stocks trading at $100 with the same trade management strategy and this time, RAT was delisted. Both traders lost all their equity in RAT Company. John is now left with nothing while Peter has $754 left. The example above is based on the worst case scenario which is familiar to many veteran traders. You would see that Peter’s 30% trade management strategy reliably reduces losses and because he lost less money than John, he needs only make a lesser amount to beat John to it. Over time, Peter will out perform John. See what I mean? Trade Management – Conclusion A sensible trade management strategy may not feel as exciting as throwing all your money in at every trade and it may also result in frustration when a stock does very well but on those much more times when a stock failed to perform, you would always be glad you stuck to your trade management strategy. As Rocky Balboa said, it is not about how hard you hit but how many hits you can take. A sensible trade management strategy ensures that you are able to take many hits and still not go down.

Healing With Neither Power Nor Holiness

    #1

Thank God that our level of power or holiness has nothing to do with our ability to get our selves or our loved ones healed. Take the case of Peter. In Acts 3, he used the name of Jesus to get the man lying at the Temple Gate healed. In so doing, he declared that his (Peter’s) level of power or holiness had nothing to do with the healing of this helpless man. Acts 3:12 12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? (KJV) I cannot over emphasize the importance of this principle: Getting your loved one healed is not dependent upon your level of power of holiness! If it was, then no one would ever be healed. Even Peter knew his level of power or holiness had nothing to do with the lame man’s healing. The devil will sidetrack you in this misunderstanding first. If he can make you believe that the healing of yourself or your loved one is in any way conditioned upon your own level of power or holiness, neither you nor your loved one will be healed! Why? Because not one of us, including Peter, has enough power or holiness to get any one healed. The proper approach to healing disarms the devil completely as he tries to peddle his “you are not powerful or holy enough” lie. You see, the anointing for healing comes on an act of faith based upon one or more healing scriptures used with Jesus’ name. Find one or more of these healing scriptures and do what they tell you to do. The healing anointing comes on an act of faith based on our obedience to the healing scriptures. This is the mechanics of healing by faith. This is the way it works. Obedience to a healing scripture used with Jesus name is our victory. Thank God! Our level of power or holiness has nothing to do with our ability to get a loved one healed. That ability is based on obeying the word of God in conjunction with using with Jesus’ name.

Meet My Students New Best Friend Mat

    #1

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting...except for Chester Rambo Zephaniac. The boy was clumsy, lazy, and not in my class out of free will. "Come take a karate mat," I instructed him for the second time, as the rest of the class waited for him. He lugged his drooping body to the front and slowly....slowly...walked back. The mat fell on the ground and made a slapping noise on the linoleum floor. Normal people would have calmly lowered themselves on the karate mat, and then proceeded to cross their legs, but not Chester Rambo Zephaniac. You could almost hear the ground grunt as he plummeted his body downward like a gravity loving meteor. Never will you see someone sit down so painfully. "Ok let's just start off with some leg stretches," I extended my right leg, and placed my left foot on my right thigh, the class mirroring me. I stretched my arms out and grabbed my toes. "One..." I started counting. "Why aren't you doing your stretches?" I heard a dull voice ask. Oh no. Peter Buck was sitting next to Chester. I could handle elbow strikes, palm heel strikes, front kicks, and back kicks all aimed at me, but Chester and Peter within ten feet of each other? I'd rather take a groin kick. I looked at the clock, and realized that getting our karate mats had not taken up an hour, but only five minutes. Fifty five more to go. "Two..." I counted. Fifty five minutes and thirty nine seconds to go, to be exact. "Because karate is stupid, and I only come here because my dad makes me," Chester retorted. "This isn't Karate, it's Kung Fu," Peter stated abruptly but calmly. "Three..." my voice strained. "Then why are we sitting on karate mats?" Chester snapped. Peter Buck said monotonously, "They're only called karate mats. They're actually used for a variety of different things. Karate, Kung Fu, Judo, Tai Kwon Do, Jujitsu " "And cheerleading!" Chester interrupted. I switched legs and counted another three long seconds, and my shouts echoing in the room seemed quieter than Peter's silence in that time. "Yes, also for cheerleading," Peter sighed, "Because cheerleaders need mats also." "What do you mean also?" Chester said, "We don't even need mats, and we're in Kung Fu." " The mats help us so that we don't slip, have shock absorbers, and have impact resilience but aren't so spongy that our feet fall into them. We need them," Peter stated dryly. I stood up and the class followed me. I looked down at my feet and noticed that they were comfortable on the padded mat but still secure, which I had never noticed before. "You might even say," Peter smiled, "That Mat is my best friend." Chester laughed and I forgot that I was leading a class, completely dumbfounded that Chester and Peter had a moment of friendliness. I stared, along with the rest of the class. Chester turned his laugh into a cough, and then stated "If everyone hates you so much that you have to start making friends with inanimate objects, that's your own business Foul Feet Pete. Gosh! His feet really do stink. I know these karate mats are precious to you and everything, but can't you make an exception and require Peter to wear shoes?" Chester Rambo Zephaniac said to me. I looked at the clock. Fifty four minutes to go...

Virgin Islands Top Resort Honeymoons Is Peter Island

    #1

The Virgin Islands Top Resort for Honeymoons has to be Peter Island. Any visitor here would describe Peter Island as one of the very top Caribbean beautiful small island vacations, with just cause too!! To be on your honeymoon on Peter Island, is just a dream come true, because as well as being a top Caribbean resort, it is probably the most romantic hotel in the Caribbean. Honeymoons should always be romantic, and whilst it has to be said that what Peter Island is not, is that it could never be described as one of the most romantic affordable honeymoon ideas, because it is definitely not cheap, however it is one of the two most romantic vacations spots for me. The first being when my husband proposed to me!! ……………… Enough of that, now what about Peter Island as the most romantic hotel in the Caribbean? This was our first trip to the Caribbean, although we are very familiar with top class resorts, beautiful white sand beaches, and delicious food, but we were not prepared for some of the most beautiful beaches on Peter Island. It really is a top resort in every sense of the word. The sea is so clean and clear, and if you enjoy snorkelling, which we do, then the beaches we tried snorkelling from were excellent. There were plenty of opportunities to indulge on the water as well with hobie cats, sunfish, windsurfing, sailing, sea kayaking. The best thing about the beaches apart from the sand and the sea was the fact that there were never many people there. We mostly went to Deadman’s Beach which runs from close to our room, past the beach restaurant The island itself is a tropical paradise, palm trees, lush green vegetation, and VERY private. No streets, no taxis, no shops, no cruise ships, airports, time share salesmen, not even houses. This is a privately owned island, and it will stay that way – pristine, unspoiled paradise, and very very private. The accommodation is probably understated, but we were lucky indeed to get an upgrade to a beachfront junior suite. It was quite amazing, beautifully furnished, a huge bathroom with a double Jacuzzi, and shower. The view from this 1st floor suite was unforgettable, and incredibly you could walk out straight onto the beach without using the stairs or the front door. I did like all the extras in the suite, the robes, flip flops etc, but the best thing to me was the fact that the radio in the room took CD’s and I always take some away with me, so we could listen to our favourites when we were dressing or just relaxing. Finally the fridge in the suite was well stocked, and the prices remarkably cheap. I come now to the food, and with it the service, and this is really where Peter Island has rightly established itself as the Virgin Islands top honeymoon resort, because if ever a girl wants to be pampered it is on her honeymoon!! Well the food at Peter Island is extremely good, and loving my food as I do, this was a foodie paradise. Breakfast, lunches down on the beach, dinners were all delicious, and I can’t remember a bad meal. The service was mostly superb, the staff went the extra mile many times for us, and were very good at remembering our names, and supplying us with things like snacks when we wanted them even if we had only casually mentioned the subject. The total highlight for me was the spa. My husband and I both had massages for the first time, and we loved the pool at the spa with the best views. Peter Island certainly lived up to its reputation as top Caribbean small island vacation, and will always be on my list of most romantic getaways, but as it is not cheap, whilst most romantic it was not my most affordable honeymoon idea – but who cares – I loved it!!

Healing And Prosperity Scriptures Include All Christians

    #1

Deut 8:18 18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. (KJV) This Scripture was written to and for the Abrahamic Seed Group. When a Gentile accepts Christ as his/her Personal Savior, he/she is immediately grafted into this Abrahamic Seed Group. Consequently, Gentile Christians are included in the great prosperity promise above. They are now Abraham's Seed by grafting and are entitled to participate in this Abrahamic wealth promise. Consider the reason given above why God gave us the power to get wealth. He did it in order to establish the Abrahamic Covenant with us also. The word translated “establish” here should have been translated by our English word “continue.” This supernatural power to get wealth is God’s sign that we are now supernaturally included in the Covenant with Abraham. Furthermore, this power to get wealth is neither intelligence, ability nor talent. It is the ability to plant financial seed and reap a financial harvest from it. This is how Abraham amassed wealth. He planted. Then he reaped. This is God’s universal Law of Wealth accumulation. We sow. We reap. This is the power to get the wealth in the above Scripture. Look at the word "strength" in the Scripture below. Acts 3:6 7 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength. (KJV) The word "strength" above translates a Greek word that is a dead ringer for our English word "steroid." In other words, when Peter commanded healing into this man, it was equivalent to a massive injection of Holy Ghost steroids. He received strength. He leaped up. He shouted. He walked. He was whole and strong. This belongs to us today also. Furthermore, this can also be administered the same way today that Peter administered it then. He spoke a command and it was so. The man received Holy Ghost Steroids and was healed. Christians today are also authorized to do this. Finally, Peter declared that the healing of this man had nothing to do with his holiness or power. In other words, Peter let the World know that he, himself, had nothing to do with this healing. It was all of God, through the use of Jesus’ name. Acts 3:11 13 11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. 12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? 13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. (KJV) In verse 11 above, when the people saw that the lame man was healed, they wondered greatly what had caused it. In verse 12 above, Peter asked them why they were looking as him and John as though Their own power and holiness had anything to do with healing the man. His meaning Was that neither their power not holiness had anything to do with the man’s healing. In verse 13 above, Peter attributed the healing to the God of the covenant with Abraham. This covenant, of course, included Abraham’s Seed Group, beginning with Isaac and Jacob. Christians today are still included in the Abrahamic Seed Group. Our inclusion into this group is the reason Christians are still authorized to do the same thing today that Peter did and for the same reason. We are included, both in the Abrahamic Seed Group, and in the healing and prosperity aspect of it. Finally, we see that Peter called upon no committees, held no prayer meetings, asked no man for permission. He just spoke the healing command using Jesus’ name and it was done. He was healed. Christians today are also authorized to do this.

Family Guy Season 3 Dvd Review

    #1

Having first aired after the 1999 Super Bowl, Family Guy really hit its stride via cable re runs and DVD sales (prompting Fox to announce the launch of Season 4 in May 2005, following the show's original cancellation following Season 3). An animated series building a similar cult following to The Simpsons and Futurama, Family Guy employs its own unique brand of humor distinct to its other animated peers… Family Guy follows the life and exploits of Peter Griffin, an idiotic family man flanked by his intelligent and loving wife, Lois. The couple have two children Chris (an overweight, mentally challenged teenage boy), Meg (a neurotic teenage girl with low self esteem), and Stewie (a super intelligent infant who believes his mother is his enemy). Together, the Griffins live with their human like dog, Brian, in suburban Quahog, Rhode Island… The Family Guy (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "The Thin White Line" in which Brian takes his therapist's advice and decides not to be so self centered and to help others. Brian's new attitude leads to his employment as a drug sniffing K 9 for the Quahog police force. But while on the job, Brian becomes addicted to cocaine, and while in rehab, he discovers that the Griffin family (and Peter in particular) are a bad influence on his life… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include "And the Wiener is…" in which Peter joins a gun club, and "Mr. Saturday Knight" in which Peter decides to follow his lifelong dream of becoming a knight with the traveling Renaissance Fair… Below is a list of episodes included on the Family Guy (Season 3) DVD: Episode 29 (The Thin White Line) Air Date: 07 11 2001 Episode 30 (Brian Does Hollywood) Air Date: 07 18 2001 Episode 31 (Mr. Griffin Goes to Washington) Air Date: 07 25 2001 Episode 32 (One If By Clam, Two If By Sea) Air Date: 08 01 2001 Episode 33 (And the Wiener is…) Air Date: 08 08 2001 Episode 34 (Death Lives) Air Date: 08 15 2001 Episode 35 (Lethal Weapons) Air Date: 08 22 2001 Episode 36 (The Kiss Seen Around the World) Air Date: 08 29 2001 Episode 37 (Mr. Saturday Knight) Air Date: 09 05 2001 Episode 38 (A Fish Out of Water) Air Date: 09 19 2001 Episode 39 (Emission Impossible) Air Date: 11 08 2001 Episode 40 (To Love and Die in Dixie) Air Date: 11 15 2001 Episode 41 (Screwed the Pooch) Air Date: 11 29 2001 Episode 42 (Peter Griffin: Husband, Father… Brother?) Objectives And Obstacles Online Marketing

    #1

“Do not make the mistake of treating the Internet as if it is simply an advertising medium. The Web has more in common with the telephone than print.” – Peter DeLegge The Internet is a means that many use to communicate everyday. Unlike the phone, the Internet ads a visual sense of communication and allows for the spread of consumer based information. Because the premise of the Internet is communication website owners need to ensure a level of interactivity with visitors. “Your Internet business strategy should be an extension of your company's existing business strategy and well integrated with everything your company does off line.” – Peter DeLegge Websites do not need to be somehow set apart from the functions of brick and mortar stores. The very things you do in store should also be reflected online. Some netrepreneurs believe that an online store needs to be different from their storefront. You will be better served if you make the web an extension of your show room with the added bonus of client connectivity on both fronts. “Most corporate Web sites are horrible about responding to email inquiries, don't let yours be one.” – Peter DeLegge If a client leaves a voice mail you will likely find it important to return the phone call. In the same way emails should elicit a committed response. We may find it easier to simply ignore the large volume of email we have in our accounts, but the truth is emails represent either existing or potential customers. We do ourselves a disservice if we refuse to respond. “The Internet provides a great opportunity to provide your target markets with high quality intellectual capital that can help position your company as a thought leader in the minds of your target markets.” – Peter DeLegge You know a significant amount about your business and the products and services you provide. A series of ‘intellectual capital’ articles cab be an important contribution to your visitors. When you place educational articles optimized with keywords or phrases you contribute to the understanding of your business while improving your ranking on search engines. “Keeping up with the rapid changes of Internet marketing is a full time job. Find an expert and use him or her.” – Peter DeLegge If you find it difficult to manage online marketing on your own you can always seek out a professional to assist you in reaching your online marketing objectives in a way that provides adequate return on your investment (ROI).

    Crest Of Eagles Book Review

    #1

Jocelyn has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the writing craft. The author interweaves multiple, strong, leading characters and two completely different time frames masterfully. Crest of Eagles reminds me of some of the great works of Wilbur Smith. This book certainly ranks with some of the best that I have reviewed to date and I would not hesitate to give Crest of Eagles the highest rating available. Mandhla is taken prisoner by terrorists during an attack of a mission run by white people with generous hearts for children who had no one to turn to. Everyone was mercilessly killed except those who could not be turned into soldiers or whores. Peter Kennedy, leader of the top military team, set out to save the children, but in fouling the job, Peter earned the revenge of one very mixed up boy. Kuru joins Peter in the war against the terrorists with the hope of saving his brother – never dreaming that when he did meet Mandhla again, it would be as enemies. Ancient tribal religion works its way into present day. The lives of Tcana, a high priestess, and Rebecca, a bombshell journalist, are connected in some kind of cosmic manor though they live centuries apart. Romance, adventure, suspense, ancient tribal history and modern day action – this book has it all! Crest of Eagles is destined to be one of the most dog eared fiction books in my collection. Stress Management Ideas

    #1

Are you somebody who always seems to be under stress? Do you worry most of the time and feel that you have the weight of the world on your shoulders? For the first twenty two years of my life, I was constantly down and depressed and used to feel very sorry for myself. This article describes how I managed to break free of this depression to have a fairly stress free life. Growing up I felt rather hard done by, that life had not dealt me a good hand of cards. These were the reasons I felt sorry for myself: I had a speech impediment, known as a stutter I have a bald patch on my head the size of a ten pence piece Due to comfort eating, I was overweight I am quite short for a male at five foot four Some of the above you may think are quite trivial issues, however for me especially as a teenager they caused me a lot of stress. Stuttering was the major thorn in my side causing me many problems and traumas. I suffered with this speech impediment for eighteen years before finally managing to beat the problem. I now help other people to achieve fluency. At the age of twenty two I started to read a lot of books about positive thinking and also started to take more of an interest in world affairs. This gave me a huge wake up call as it made me realise that I was actually dealt a very good set of cards. There are not many countries I would rather have been born in, the things above that I felt were so terrible are in fact very trivial compared to people who live in parts of Africa, as an example. I had stressed so much that by the age of twenty one my hair had already started to turn grey. A colleague at work was also to have a huge affect on my life without him even knowing it. He was a man (I will call him Peter) who had many of his own issues. Peter had learning difficulties, had what I call the shakes, did not have many friends and did not have a girlfriend in the six years that I knew him. I would meet Peter for lunch on most days and he would always have a beaming smile on his face. One day I thought to myself, what have you got to smile about? I then decided that if he could smile then so could I. I now am very happy with who I am, and if people do not like me, I don't care. Life is so much easier now!

    Motivation By A Challenge

    #1

Many humans are motivated by the thought of doing something they or others think they cannot do. They don't want to do what they already know they can do. They are also motivated, as one commentator on this article wisely mentioned, by success. Succeed and then the motivation will arrive in bucket loads. When I studied Taekwondo, most of the best students were slim, flexible and young. I was thickset and definitely not flexible! I was also over forty! The instructor asked me with some curiosity why I had decided to do something which did not really suit my physical makeup. I replied that there was no point in doing something I was already good at or likely to be good at. I wanted a challenge. This answer seemed to make sense to him. People climb mountains because they are big challenges and when they reach the top they will feel they, too, have grown in stature. Jim Rohn, the great American self help guru, tells us to make a million pounds not so much for the money but for what making a million will make of us. In the Contender reality show where sixteen middleweight boxers are pitted against each other, the prize is a final fight at Caesar's Palace in Nevada. The winner will be given a million dollars and the glory of beating their competitors. Some of the boxers used strategy to try to win the prize. They wanted to face the weaker boxers so that they would stay in the competition and would suffer fewer injuries. They were regarded as cowards by some of the others who proudly or recklessly chose to face the toughest boxers on their route to the top. In the week when only 8 boxers were left, Joey Gilbert was thinking about fighting Anthony Bonsante who had an injured hamstring and was therefore vulnerable. Jesse Brinkley was disgusted with his attitude: "Do you want everything given to you?" Jesse even went so far as to accuse Joey of cowardice. But then he had managed to accuse nearly everybody except himself of cowardice! Was this his strategy? In fact, Jesse had been planning on fighting Bonsante himself. He decided to win the weekly challenge so that he could decide who would be in the next fight. Jesse won the challenge and decided to make Joey earn his way by fighting Peter Manfredo Junior one of the best fighters. This would leave the way open for Jesse to fight his preferred opponent the injured Bonsante! His corner man told Joey: "Everything you need to win is inside you. You are a winner. Don't get into 'He can do this or I can do that.' When all the chips are against you that's when you fight the best." Peter Manfredo's dad showed up to be in his corner. Peter commented: "He'll inspire me." Joey accepted his lot and changed his attitude: "I came here for a challenge and I got it. Jesse's right It's better to attempt great things and fall short than it is to conquer something you know that you can already beat and this is one of those times. I know I have a hill to climb. I'm the underdog but I know I can pull it out with my heart if I dig deep." Peter gave his thoughts before the fight: "I'm anxious to get in there especially with my father being here. I've never lost in front of him yet and I don't want to start now. I know I'm one of the best fighters here and I guess I'm just going to go for it." Peter won the first round with some heavy punches. Joey told his corner: "My rib is broken". Peter won the second round. Joey again commented: "My rib is gone." In round three, Joey forgot about his rib and put up a real fight. Before the fourth round, his corner man urged him on: "Let's go baby! Let's go baby!" Joey won round four and his corner man continued to motivate: "This is the last round for the rest of your life, son!" His words were prophetic as Joey was accidentally head butted by Peter in round five. His head would probably need about forty stitches and the fight was stopped so that Joey could go off for treatment. Peter won by split decision. He was quietly elated: "Tonight was a great night. My heart goes out to Joey and his family. Joey is an awesome kid. He has a heart of gold. He kept coming. He wanted to win. I give him all the credit in the world. I've won two fights I've got one more to go. I won't celebrate till I go to Caesar's. Joey was upset but not too despondent: "I fought for five rounds with one of the best in the world, Peter Manfredo Junior. I might even have been able to beat him had I finished that fifth round. Part of me always knew that I was capable of competing at this level but part of me doubted it because I had always been told that I was a college boxer and couldn't compete with pro boxers. But I learned that I can do it." Joey continued his extensive reflections on the fight: "A champion's heart is made of gold and it means you don't quit and it means that you fight on and I tried to show the heart of a champion and I never quit and I never gave up because I could look right and see my family and see my father. I didn't want to let them down. My grand father used to say that your family is the most important thing you have in your life and I can definitely say that's true for me. The tournament, the Contender, for me was one of the toughest challenges I've ever put myself through. It's done and it's one of the best times in my life. It's something I'll never forget as long as I live." Sugar Ray Leonard was impressed by Joey's performance: "If you look up the word 'heart' in the dictionary you'll probably see Joey Gilbert's photo!" Boxing is all about motivation and the readiness to face challenges. It is about having the heart to persist in the face of mind numbing pain. Boxers have much to teach the rest of us.
