    Hospitalist Outsourcing

    #1

All About Hospitalists and Why Companies Are Outsourcing Them Firstly, you have to understand what a hospitalist is. Hospitalists are doctors who specialize or focus on hospital medicine. Meaning these doctors consider the hospital as their office. Hospitalists are involved in patient care, research, teaching and leadership related to hospital care. Hospitalists focus around the site of care, which is the hospital, unlike cardiology, that focuses on a single organ and oncology that focuses on diseases. Hospitalists help manage patient care in the hospital. They often see patients in the ER, admit them to inpatient wards, and cares for them even after being hospitalized. The activity of a hospitalist focuses on hospital care for inpatients. They provide another way to improve and also assist in the traditional patient doctor relationship. They also do not have any outside practices and focuses. Because of this, hospitalists are able to take care and have more time for hospital patients. Today, there are organizations and companies that provide hospitalist physicians in hospitals all over the world in a contractual basis. This is because they are able to provide service to primary healthcare physicians who are regulars in the hospital’s medical staff. This means that they will be responsible for outpatient and emergency room care patients if a member of the medical staff doesn’t want the responsibility. Another benefit that the hospital can take advantage of if they hire Hospitalists is that they will be able to move patients to the recovery process faster. Hospitals will now be able to do this without sacrificing the quality of hospital care. This means that it will eventually ease the frequent needs of the hospital on holding patients in the emergency department and also on the admission. Hospitalist programs can eventually benefit the physicians, the hospital and the patient: For physicians, it will enable regular healthcare physicians to concentrate in their medical practice. This will also allow them to improve their skills and it will also enable them to use their time more efficiently. The hospitalist system will eventually eliminate or at least decrease the on call responsibility of primary healthcare physicians on patients who are not yet assigned to a physician, and it will also have reimbursement advantages. Hospitals will also benefit from hospitalist programs. This is because it actually reduces the patient’s length of stay and the hospital costs to about 15%. This program will also decrease the number of admissions that are inappropriate and the number of days denied for managed care companies. A hospitalist program also provides satisfaction rating for the patient and the family and it also improves relationship between the physician and the patient. For patients, studies have found that after being taken care of hospitalists, patients also prefers the hospitalist concept rather than wanting their own doctor to take care of them during their stay at the hospital. The hospitalist is always in the hospital and is readily available for the patient’s needs. They will be able to answer questions from both the families and the patients. Think of hospitalists as outsourced physicians by a company. Hospitals now hire outsourced hospitalists in order to improve the quality of hospital care and to satisfy their in house medical staff and also their patient. Having hospitalists in a hospital will ensure round the clock quality care for patient and at the same time, reduce the cost that a hospital may spend for patients. They will be the ones who will admit, and take care of the patient on the duration of time they are admitted in the hospital. With hospitalists, you will never again wait for your doctor to take care of you. Care will always be there 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

    Adjustable Beds In Hospitals

    #1

I believe nobody ever wants to be admitted in a hospital for whatever reason. One may be there merely to visit a sick relative or work as a staff. But other than these, there is no way that a person will leave the comforts of his/her own home and stay inside a hospital. However, certain inevitable things happen and you have no choice but to let yourself be confined in a hospital. The hospital is actually a place where one gets treated and be monitored during the recovery process. As the hospital is built for such purpose, it is just necessary to ensure patient’s convenience and comfort while staying in the infirmary. Hospital devices and equipment are specially designed to help the medical professionals in providing wellness and rendering care to their covered patients. And adjustable beds are among such equipment. In the past, hospitals only utilize fixed beds for any type of patients. When a patient’s head needs to be elevated, pillows are just added. But today, hospital beds can now be modified to better suit the individual needs of the ailing patients. As crucial as other medical instruments and equipment, adjustable hospital beds provide relief and comfort needed by the patients. The lower and upper parts, or sometimes even the central portion, of such hospital beds can be adjusted either electrically or manually to relieve pressure on particular aching areas. Hospital beds can accommodate those who are sitting up, or those that need their legs/head elevated, or those who simply lay flat on bed. The kind of mattress an adjustable hospital bed has is also of great significance. The mattress must be made from latex and polyurethane foams to ensure that the bed contains no chemical substances that will compromise the safety of one’s immune system. Aside from those mentioned earlier, adjustable beds in hospitals have specific health benefits for patients as will be cited below. • Hospital adjustable beds can reduce the swelling of one’s lower extremities. • They provide relief for back pain, as well as tenderness of the entire body. • They soothe the tension on the shoulders and neck. • They also counterbalance overnight heartburn and acid reflux. • They relieve the discomfort and soreness on certain body parts, like the knees, spine and neck. • Patients with degenerative diseases such as spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and osteoarthritis also benefit from hospital adjustable beds. • Such beds are also beneficial to patients who have just undergone surgical procedures. They are also ideal for people who have just had surgery. • Adjustable hospital beds also aid patients in moving in and out of their beds. This activity actually relieves the muscles of the heart and thus improves airway and breathing. Also, the active movement eases the muscles of the stomach, thereby facilitating proper digestion and regular elimination. • In some sophisticated and more luxurious hospitals, their adjustable beds may feature massaging motors to add more relief and comfort. With adjustable hospital beds, your hospital stay will surely be a relaxing and comfortable one.

Hospitalists Can You Catch One In The Hospital

    #1

It's an emerging trend, and one that many patients find confusing and uncomfortable: their primary doctor doesn't visit them in the hospital any more and doesn't manage their hospital care. Primary care doctors are increasingly turning the care of their hospitalized patients over to specialists called "hospitalists." The hospitalist is a hospital based doctor who does not see patients in an office based practice. He or she manages the care of patients only while they are in the hospital, turning them back over to their regular physicians when they are discharged. During the time a patient is in the hospital the hospitalist is responsible for all decisions about a patient's care. Advantages of Hospitalists The hospitalist usually knows the hospital, and hospital politics, very well. This often enables the hospitalist to cut through red tape and "make things happen" more efficiently than office based physicians. Hospitalists are more readily available to respond to emergencies in the hospital. Nurses and other care staff can usually reach a hospitalist more rapidly than an office based physician, especially on evenings and weekends. Continuity of care within the hospital is often better. When primary care physicians manage inpatient hospital care, the patient is often actually seen by more doctors, as doctors in larger practices often take turns seeing all of the practice's hospitalized patients. Hospitalists are usually more accessible to family members. Families don't have to try to "catch" the doctor in the wee hours of the morning or late in the evening when he or she is making hospital rounds outside of office hours. Disadvantages of Using a Hospitalist The biggest disadvantage to the movement toward hospitalists is the loss of continuity of care between the primary physician and the hospital. The hospitalist has no previous knowledge of his new patient. If communication between the primary care physician and the hospitalist is poor, it falls to the patient and the family to fill in the gaps. When a patient is discharged from the hospital the hospitalist relinquishes care back to the PCP. If communication has not been good, the primary care physician often has little knowledge of what the patient experienced in the hospital. Records are frequently slow to follow the patient, so on the first follow up visit the office based doctor may have scant information. Without adequate information the PCP frequently makes adjustments to treatment plans and medications that are counter to the treatment plans initiated in the hospital. How To Work With A Hospitalist Be prepared. If your trip to the hospital is pre planned, talk to your primary doctor about the hospitalists in your chosen hospital. Find out which hospitalist communicates best with your doctor, and who your doctor prefers to work with. If possible, ask your doctor to pre arrange that this hospitalist will be in charge of your care while you're in the hospital. Arrive Armed: Never assume that things will go as planned. You may not feel well, and you will be under stress. The chosen hospitalist may be on vacation, out ill, or unavailable. Take a synopsis of your medical history, including the results of all recent tests, with you to the hospital. Whenever possible have someone stay with you in the hospital until you have met your doctor and given him or her all the information you have. Have that person take notes, including the names of all your hospital caregivers, their contact information (phone and pager), and the location of their offices in the hospital. Sign a Release: If you can, make sure to sign a release of information form when you are admitted. This will give the hospitalist and everyone else on your medical team permission to discuss your care with the person you appoint. Even if you have already given that person your Power of Attorney for Health Care, signing a permission to release information is a good idea. You might not be so ill that your Power of Attorney for Health Care goes into effect. In that case, without authority to release information, you might find the staff is less than willing to share information with the person staying with you.

How To Find The Right Get Well Gift

    #1

Having someone you care about in the hospital is hard. You want to let them know you care and that you’re thinking about them. The challenge is figuring out what is appropriate. This depends both on why the person is in the hospital and what they like. You also want to think about whether it is something they will be able to use in the hospital or have to take home. Of course, sometimes you’re sending a get well gift to someone who is sick or recovering from an injury at home, which can open things up a little. You can buy things without worrying about the effort it will take to bring your gift home or if anyone in the hospital might have an allergy. Flowers are, of course, the classic get well gift. Just about anyone will welcome flowers. They bring a bit of brightness to drab hospital rooms. I recommend choosing flowers that don’t have too strong a scent, as some people are sensitive. Flowers don’t have to be in a bouquet either. If the person loves gardening, try getting some flowers in a pot instead. Then your gift can be there for a long time. Candies are often welcome too. How welcome depends on what the recipient is getting better from and any other problems they might have. If they cannot or prefer not to eat candy, this won’t be so welcome. Stuffed animals are very popular with sick children. It’s something soft and friendly when they aren’t feeling their best. Other toys may be welcome as well, depending on the age and interests of the child. Reading material is another great gift idea. Being an invalid is BORING! This can be challenging, as you need to know a lot about what the person likes to read, but can be one of the most welcome gifts. You may want to avoid anything that is too strong a reminder of what the person is not able to do, unless you are absolutely certain that it will be welcome. That is, a child with a broken leg may or may not appreciate something to do with the sport he or she would otherwise be outside playing. This kind of gift can be either extremely thoughtful or utterly thoughtless. If the person is in the hospital, be aware that latex balloons are no longer permitted in many hospitals because some people have serious allergies to them. If you want to bring balloons, stick with the mylar ones. You can get better messages on those anyhow.

    Basics Of Hospital Expense Insurance

    #1

Hospital expense insurance covers the expenses incurred on a patient’s hospital stay, provided he/she already has a subscription in this regard. Nobody has ever lived a life time without a bout of illness and a subsequent hospital stay. This is something inevitable as no one is perfectly immune to diseases. And every hospital stay one has brings with the discharge order a mind boggling bill the psychological effect of which is more than enough to send back the fitness regained patient for another few days for treatment in the same hospital. When it comes to health related issues, no one could keep a check on the cash flow. After all, in such circumstances, it is the question of life and health that supersedes the financial issue. But with hospital expense insurance, one could reclaim the money spent by producing all the relevant certificates and bill. Hospital expense insurance is one form of the health insurance that pays for the expenses incurred for the patient’s room and board costs. The coverage also compensates financially for incidental expenses such as x rays, the use of the operating room, anesthesia, drugs and laboratory charges. When it comes to payment, some insurance providers prefer to pay the claim on an indemnity style where the insurer pays a definite sum each day for a set maximum number of days. Some players, on the other hand, opt to pay the actual bill or a percentage of the actual amount regardless of what the amount the bill indicates. Generally, at the time of the payment, the insured is paid a claim that amounts to a fixed percentage of the policy amount minus the deductibles. Various hospital expense insurance policies follow different schemes and hence the payable amount varies a lot. The customer should ideally see if the "stop loss" or "coinsurance maximum," which limits the insured person’s liability is at an acceptable limit. A decently followed scheme does not put much burden on the customer. Also look for those insurance providers who offer a maximum benefit ceiling. Practically, there are a large number of hospital expense insurance policies which are rejected on technical grounds. The reality is that, for the insurance firms, their aim is to make profits and by denying one a hospital expense insurance policy claim, actually the company is gaining profits in larger numbers. Inadequacy or discrepancy in the information provided by the customer is one of the grounds in which they deny a policy. Hence, the customer should ensure that he/she provides the correct and updated information to the insurance companies. Also, the customer must be thorough with the rules and regulations that define the hospital expense insurance policy. See to it that all relevant documents and papers are in place. Remember, a missed piece of document is a valid ground for refusal of a claim. Before buying any hospital expense insurance policy, the customer ideally should be doing a bit of research on the insurance scene of his/her place of stay. One can go by references if you have any trusted friend or you know anybody who have had successfully claimed the hospital expense insurance. In this regard, browsing the insurance company’s home sites facilitates for an easy comparison of similar policies and their rates. To conclude, how much the customer may need to shell out along side the claim amount so as to pay the hospital expense directly depends upon the hospital expense insurance policy he/she selected. And that requires a good application of discerning senses and yes, a bit of common sense as well.

A Baby Story A Funny Story To Brighten Your Day

    #1

My wife loves to watch the show, A Baby Story, everyday. She starting watching it a year ago when she was pregnant with our son, because she wanted to try to get an idea what labor would be like. Now she watches, because she wants to reminisce about the birth of our son, and look forward to having our next child. Personally I think that this show is boring, but recently I heard a baby story of a different kind. Here is how the story went. The girl was nineteen years old with no boyfriend in the picture anymore. She was working full time to try to make ends meet, and she was getting very anxious for the baby to be born. One morning before she had to be at work, she went to the doctor’s office for a checkup. The doctor checked her and told her that she was in labor, and she needed to go to the hospital to be delivered. She said cool, and then she asked do I need to go to the hospital now, or can I go after work. The doctor politely told her that she did not have to go to the hospital immediately, but that she could only go home and get her a bag ready for the hospital stay. She asked if it would be ok if she got something to eat, and he said he did not advise it. Next thing you know she is in the drive thru line at Whataburger trying to get something to eat, and a guy backed into the driver side of her truck. Remember now that she is in active labor. She can not get out of the driver side door, so she drags her big, nine months pregnant belly out the passenger side door. The man saw her condition, and got so worried he fainted. Now a nine month pregnant women is sitting in the parking lot at Whataburger, in active labor, fanning a man trying to revive him. Once she got home, her mother rushed her to the hospital. After a few hours of labor a beautiful baby boy was born, and both mother and baby were healthy. I don’t know about you, but if A Baby Story was this interesting everyday, I think I would tune in a lot more often.

Plastic Surgery Where Will It Occur

    #1

As you evaluate the best plastic surgeon option for your treatment, you might be surprised to learn the location of your surgery should be part of your determination. Plastic Surgery – Where Will It Occur The question of the location of your surgery probably never even occurred to you when you started thinking about having plastic surgery. If you are having plastic surgery, it must be done in a hospital, right? Actually, there are a wide variety of options and you need to understand them before making plastic surgeon evaluations. Much of the decision making process will depend on your comfort level with surgical procedures. There are three options when it comes to the location of your surgery. The first is the traditional hospital setting. The second is a surgical center. The third is actually in the office of the surgeon. By far, the largest percentage of plastic surgery procedures occur in the offices of the surgeon. Having your surgery done in a hospital is an excellent choice. First, it means your surgeon has hospital privileges, which means the hospital has evaluated the surgeon and found them to have a level of competency the hospital is comfortable with. Second, the hospital surgical process is highly regulated by government, which means you are going to get optimal care before, during and after the procedure. A surgical center is a facility set up to handle a variety of surgical procedures. Hospitals only have so much space and there is rarely enough time available to handle all the surgeries scheduled in your city or town. The surgical center fills this gap. Much like a hospital, it is heavily regulated and the care is very good. To collect fees, the center must be certified by various government agencies, and the government agencies are sticklers for details like safety. Having your surgery in a surgical center is not indicative of any negative factor. Many surgeons have surgical facilities built into their offices. Since they are expensive, you will usually find these facilities when there is a group of doctors providing surgical procedures. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this approach, you need to pay close attention to certifications. Has the facility been certified by an independent group for safety and emergency procedures? The question is not so much whether it is safe for the surgical procedure you are undergoing, but whether the facility is equipped to handle any unexpected problems. Surgery is an invasion of the body and carries inherent risks. It is important that certifications for things such as life support be held by the office and by the nurses. Having surgery in an office facility is very common and has its benefits. The office option is almost always cheaper than hospitalization or a surgical center. Still, we are talking about your body, so make sure to view the facility, ask for certifications and meet with the nurses. If you are not comfortable with any aspect of the facility, you are better off going with a surgeon who has hospital privileges or using a surgical center. There are a lot of factors to consider. Make sure you don’t leave out the issue of the location of the actual procedure.

    What Is A Travel Nurse

    #1

What is a Travel Nurse? A travel nurse is a licensed nurse who typically works in a hospital for a few months at a time before moving onto a different hospital in a different part of the country. Hospitals like to hire travel nurses and other traveling health professionals for a variety of reasons. Travel nurses can bring a variety of experience and knowledge that a hospital can benefit from. Lots of times, a travel nurse can act as a mentor for other nurses that have just completed their training and are not yet comfortable and/or confident with their new professional status. Medical facility's that have just opened will often hire the services of a travel nurse until they are up and running smoothly. The new, inexperienced staff will be able to benefit from the travel nurse's previous work experience. Most travel nurses enjoy the experience of traveling, meeting and working with new co workers, and hope to gain a well rounded work experience that will serve them when they settle on working full time at a specific medical facility. Many travel nurses claim that the experience allows them to develop a better understanding of their chosen specialty. These same travel nurses also claim that their unique work experiences have helped reintroduce them to patient focused nursing. Before they start working at a new hospital, a travel nurse has already established an agreement with the hospital. This agreement states what salary the nurse will be making while she is working for the hospital. Before traveling to the new hospital the nurse knows how much of their travel expenses will be paid for. They also know where they will be living while they are working at the medical facility. Travel nurses generally enjoy a more lucrative salary then they would receive if they worked in a single location. The salary the travel nurse earns is generally based on the location they are working; typically a travel nurse will not earn as much working in a hospital in a rural community as they will earn working in a large inner city hospital. Some nurses prefer travel nursing to nursing in a single medical facility because they enjoy the opportunity to see the world and other cultures. Working in a constantly changing location challenges a travel nurses knowledge and talents. The skills that travel nurse develop on their journeys are skills that they will be able to utilized when they settle on a home base. Travel nurses find employment through a travel nursing service. This service pairs nurses with medical facilities that are seeking a travel nurse. The travel nursing service typically has a long and happy relationship with hospitals, medical facilities, and medical professionals. The nursing service helps reach agreements between the medical facility's and the travel nurse. The travel nursing service will also be able to help the travel nurse make sure that they have the proper licensing to work in the state they are about to be going to. Before a nurse can become a travel nurse there are a few professional criteria that they must complete first.

Shoes Selected For Use At Medical Facilities

    #1

Most people do not have to guess which color a nurse will select to wear to work. Most of the shoes selected for use at medical facilities will be colored in bright white but are times when a hospital worker might have an opportunity to add some color to them. A white color is preferred at hospitals because it presents a crisp and clean appearance to patients who need medical treatments. Some nurses think that nobody ever gets to see the shoes they wear because most patients are looking at the doctor or nurse's face and not at their feet. Nurses continue to select white for work because the color lightens up their weary spirits. Nurses have found that they can move silently through the medical wards and never have to worry about disturbing a patient that is resting or terminally ill. The stealth qualities are common in the shoes that are chosen by nurses. They are tasked with medicating patients at all hours of the day, and the night. Some patients never realize they are in the room because the medical shoes they wear are equipped with non marring soles. The maintenance people who polish the hospital floors are certainly appreciative of these medical shoes soles. Any shoes selected for use at medical facilities must be able to adapt to certain environments. Surgical procedures will require medical personnel to stand on their feet for long hours at a time. Hospital personnel will usually select white, soft sole shoes that have extra cushioning properties built into the interiors of the shoes. With this cushioning, hospital workers can attend to patients and not fret about how their feet hurt. Some medical facilities require booties to be worn while in a treatment area. The medical shoes that they cover must accommodate the size of the booties. Shoes that are too wide will be left at home some days because the medical student might know that they will be in an operating room most of the day which requires them to wear the shoes that will accommodate the booties they must wear. The medical shoes styles allow hospital personnel to dress fashionably and adhere to rigid work requirements. These shoes are offered in styles that allow hospital workers to remove them quickly. There are shoes styled as loafers that can be quickly donned or removed when the work day is over. Some medical people select the medical shoes with laces because they are constantly moving and need shoes that are tight on their feet.

The Top U. S. Hospitals Have 28% Lower Mortality Rate

    #1

The Top U. S. Hospitals have 28% Lower Mortality Rate The American Heart Association did a new study concerning hospitals and their mortality rates. We now know that the top 5 percent in the United States have a 28% lower death rate than other hospitals in the nation. Health Grades is an independent health care ratings company released this information January 29th, 2007. They also found that patients who have surgery at the top rated hospitals are about five percent less likely to suffer complications than patients at other hospitals are. The Health Grade Company analyzed death and mortality rates for 26 procedures and diagnoses, including bypass surgery, angioplasty, stroke, and heart attack, at all 5,122 nonfederal hospitals. The top hospitals reduced their death rate by an average of 11.7 percent and reduced post surgical complication rates by 3.4 percent. The study author claimed that if all U. S. hospitals had the same quality of care as the top hospitals, 158,264 lives would have been saved and 12,409 major complications avoided. Unfortunately, there is a gap in the quality of care provided by high quality hospitals and other hospitals in the United States, according to Health Grades. In order to qualify for the Health Grades list, hospitals were required to meet minimum thresholds in terms of patient volumes, quality ratings and the range of services provided. In the top 5% of hospitals that deal with heart, patients there are 229 in the nation today. The hospitals are located all around the nation and keep a high standard of performance. The Quality Of Hospital Food

    #1

In this article I write about the quality, or lack of it, in the food that is served in some of the UK hospitals. My nan has recently died in hospital which has been very upsetting for my family. She was hit by one of the famous hospital bugs and became very weak. She was in need of some decent food which would have helped to build up her strength. What she received was basically so poor and tasteless that she found it hard to eat. Despite many attempts by various members of the family to pursuade her to eat more, she could not stomach it and kept saying that it the food had no taste and that it was disgusting. I have to admit that it was not exactly tempting when I saw what was being dished out. In the UK we are very lucky in the standard of our hospitals when you compare it to many other countries in the world. Our country is very rich but a lot of this cash is being wasted on certain projects. Surely people in our hospitals deserve a much higher standard of food, food which they can look forward to eat. I have recently watched a program about how Jamie Oliver is trying to improve the standard of food in schools throughout the UK. This is a very worthwhile project and as a father of two children myself, I am more than aware that the canteen food served in most schools is not up to scratch. At the schools where my own children attend, the parents have the option of paying for these meals or they can make their child a packed lunch. We choose the packed lunch option. In hospitals there is no such option. I would have loved to have been able to cook some food for my nan, which I could then have taken to her when I visited. I would have also liked to have taken some cleaning products as the place could have done with some tender loving care as well as a lick of paint. A message to Jamie Oliver, you are doing a sterling job but please could you turn your attention to the hospitals next! A message to Tony Blair, stop wasting money killing our troops in Iraq and start looking after your own! I am not trying to say that my nan would have survived if the standard of food had been better in the hospital where she spent her final days. What I am trying to say is that I hope it improves in a big way before I have to spend any time there.
