    How To Clean Your Hookah

    #1

Now that you have a new hookah, and you’re enjoying the fine smoking sensations of this unique water pipe, it’s time to consider something you may not have thought about before: maintenance. That’s right; hookahs need to be cleaned periodically. The water in the vase acts as a filter for the smoke, and should be changed after every use. Also, smoke and particulate matter can cling to the inside of the hoses or stem. If your hookah gets too dirty it will not draw properly, or the smoke can start to taste stale. A regular cleaning regimen will prevent this. Make sure that you have a hookah cleaning brush among your hookah accessories. A Quick Guide to Hookah Cleaning It’s actually not difficult to clean a hookah. Make sure you use very hot water to clean the vase and stem, and that you never use water on the hoses unless they are made of washable plastic. Most importantly, however, remember that you can never use soap to clean a hookah; the residue will alter the flavor of the smoke. To clean the vase, simply empty it, fill it with hot water, and scrub it with a hookah cleaning brush. The stem is even easier to clean: just run very hot tap water through it, until the water runs clear. As for the hoses, carefully detach them from the hookah, and then blow strongly through them to clear away any particles and dirt. It’s best to do this outside. Once your hookah’s parts are cleaned, let them dry thoroughly. The best way to get them fully dry is to let them sit overnight on a towel. They’ll be ready again by morning. Another point to remember: always let the hookah dry thoroughly before you smoke it again; the only water in the pipe while smoking should be at the bottom of the vase. As you see, it’s really not too difficult to clean a hookah. The cleaning regimen described here should be done about every 10 to 14 days, depending on how often you smoke your hookah. Most people will change the water in the vase before every smoking session, since hookah smoke tastes best when filtered through clean water.

    How To Smoke A Hookah

    #1

Hookah smoking is a social phenomenon, and like any social event, there are rules of etiquette. These rules are unwritten, and are mostly unspoken; usually, they are learned by experience. But if you’ve never smoked a hookah before, it’s useful to know what you can expect. Hookahs are smoked in groups. In fact, even a small hookah is usually too small for one person to smoke alone, and the larger hookahs, with fittings for several hoses, are actually designed to be used in groups. Basic Hookah Etiquette Because a hookah is considered a service device, it’s important to remember that the pipe stays on the ground. You should always lift the hose up to your mouth, and never bring it down to you. As an aside, if you smoke cigarettes, and you absolutely must have a cigarette break, do not! light your cigarette from the hookah coal, or use the hookah tray to tap your ashes. This is considered exceedingly rude. It’s better to just step aside from the group and smoke your cigarette. In the group, there is no set rule for who gets the next hit from the hookah. Smokers will usually just figure this out for themselves. It’s polite to let the person who owns the hookah you’re using have the first hit. Make sure that you only draw air out of the hose when it’s your turn to smoke. Blowing into the hose can cause air to pass up through hookah and into the coal, causing the shisha to burn. A hookah is only designed for the air to flow through from the coal, to the smoker. A hookah is also only designed to be used with the special shisha tobacco blends. Never smoke anything else in a hookah. These blends are meant to be drawn through the water, and, frankly, ordinary tobacco just doesn’t taste as good as the fruity shishas. Make sure, when you’re smoking, that the coal doesn’t get too hot; if the shisha tobacco burns, it’ll taste bitter. When it’s time to pass the hookah around the group, never hand it directly to the next smoker. You should lay the hose down in front of the next person, and let him pick it up for himself. If you’re using a one hose hookah, and everyone has their own mouthpiece, always take yours off of the hose before passing it. If you’re using a communal mouthpiece, make sure to wipe it clean first. And that’s about it. A well prepared hookah can take quite a while to finish, even with four or five smokers, so take your time; it’s not a race, and there is no prize for finishing the bowl first. Hookah smoking is meant be social, so make small talk, relax, and have fun. And be a part of the hookah trend.

    The Hookah Experience

    #1

A hookah is basically a water pipe intended for the smoking of tobacco. It is often made of glass with two or more flexible stems drawing the water cooled smoke from the pipe. It originated in India many centuries ago, and moved from there into the Middle East. Although tobacco was the original substance burned in the hookah, others are also used. Some of these others have been illegal substances such as Cannabis or Opium, and this has tended to give hookahs a bad name in Western Culture. In recent years, the hookah has been making some headway in dispelling this bad reputation. One of the attractions of hookah smoking in the East was the manner in which the activity induced relaxation, and stimulated conversation. The Online market has allowed hookahs to be purchased in larger numbers, and the merchants generally sell a large variety of flavored and low nicotine tobacco. The nicotine level is furthered reduced by the action of the water inside the pipe, and the result is a smoking experience that is ultimately less expensive and a lot less messy than sharing a couple of Marlboros. If a couple were smokers, it is easy to envision the hookah on the coffee table for a private evening of movies or conservation. This is exactly the thought of some enterprising businessmen who have begun to open Hookah bars around the country. These would be regular bars with the exception of a hookah in the middle of every table. That large selection of fragrant tobacco would be available for purchase along with your drinks. The hookah smoking would supposedly have a calming effect on the patrons, encourage good talk, and enhance the entertainment. A Hookah Cafй would be similar except that perhaps food and coffee would be served with the tobacco rather than alcohol. Which ever approach suits you better, a trip to a Hookah smoking establishment would make a novel and very interesting group activity.

    First Date Ideas

    #1

When thinking of ideas for a a first date I like to try new things. Rather than cater to what either one of us enjoys I try to find something completely new. This is my way of starting off the relationship with a bang and some excitement. Dinner and a movie has been done to death and so have trips to bars and clubs. Give a few of these ideas a shot and you will be pleasantly surprised. Skydiving I haven’t tried this out for a first date idea yet but it seems like it would really be great (provided neither of you are afraid of heights). It’s exhilarating and standing together at the door of a plane about to jump out at several thousand feet has a romantic appeal that not many other things can match. Call your local municipal airport to see if they have any skydiving instructors. Hookah Cafes If you’re not one of the enlightened who enjoys middle eastern food and hookah then you should definitely give it a try. It might not be a good option for the health conscious but for the rest of us it makes an excellent first date. Hookah cafes are usually bustling places with a laid back and cozy atmosphere and is a great place to smoke a hookah, enjoy some coffee and have a nice conversation. This works especially well for college students as there are usually many cafes nearby. Art Conventions/Galleries One of my favorite places to have a first date is at the monthly art walk they have here through the downtown area. Artists and vendors get together and line the streets. Musicians play their music for you as you walk around and take in the artwork. It works wonders for anyone who can appreciate art. Live Comedy Another astounding option for first dates are local comedy clubs. There are a handful of really excellent ones in my area featuring both professional and amateur local comedy acts. This is a great way to break the ice; with some laughs. Wine Tasting/Tours If you live somewhere close to vineyards taking a tour or going to a wine tasting make excellent first dates (as long as you’re 21+). A few good wines and good conversation tucked away on a vineyard seems peaceful to me and has worked wonders for me in the past. Scuba Diving If you are fortunate enough to live near the beach snorkeling or scuba diving make great date activities. Follow a romp in the ocean with a nice seaside dinner and you have the makings of romance. Poetry Readings/Book Signings Poetry readings make great first dates and if you’re the adventurous type you can even whip up a peace to read your date at the reading. Talk about a way to score some points! Book signings are also great even if you’re not really into books. You can enjoy coffee and conversation with your date and often enjoy a dramatic reading from the author.
