Plan Your Thailand Vacation Based On Thai Holidays

Since it is already 2008, or 2551 on the Thai calendar, it is time to take a look at the Thai holidays so that you can plan your trip accordingly. Some people want to be in Thailand when there is a holiday and partake in the celebration and others want to avoid some holidays (i. e. Songkran) like the plague. Traditional New Year has already come and gone (today is January 6, 2008) but there are many other days to celebrate in Thailand. Here are a few words of caution for the unwary traveler. Many of the holidays involve celebrating with large quantities of alcohol and the traffic death toll increases dramatically. This is mainly during the celebrating of the various New Years. Many of the holidays are family oriented requiring people to return back to the nest to celebrate with the rest of the family. Therefore, traffic on the roads can be horrendous. Here are the main holidays for 2008. Use them as a guide for your travel plans. Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 8th. This is the start of the lunar year and is primarily celebrated in the various Chinatowns throughout Thailand. There will be some business closures but it is not a national holiday. February 21st is Makha Bucha Day which celebrates the Buddha’s first sermon given to his disciples. April 6th, 2008, is Chakri Day and this day commemorates the founding of the Chakri Dynasty. This dynasty is referred to as Rama I. Since this falls on a Sunday, businesses may be closed on Monday the 7th. Songkran, Thai New Year, is celebrated from 13 – 15 April and even longer is some of the tourist spots, like Khaosan Road in Bangkok and Pattaya. This is a traditional water festival, so if you are in town, expect to get wet. This is also the time of year for most road deaths. Alcohol and wet roads don’t mix. Labor Day is celebrated on the 1st of May and is a national holiday but most folks just look at it as a paid day off. The 5th of May is a holiday to honor the day when the current King of Thailand was crowned. It is officially called Coronation Day. Another Buddhist Holy day is observed on May 19th. This is Visakha Bucha and is the holiest Buddhist holiday celebrates Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and entry into nirvana. Buddhist Lent begins on July 18 and is celebrated as a national holiday. Monks retreat to their temples and celebrate a time of year when new life comes forth. The Queen’s Birthday, or Mother’s Day, is celebrated on August 12th and is a highly honored, national holiday. Chulalongkorn Day is observed on October 23 honoring one of Thailand’s most revered kings. Loy Krathong will be celebrated on 13 November coinciding with the 12th lunar full moon. Thais celebrate by floating small rafts, called krathongs, in the river, lake or ocean. This is to pay respect to the goddess of the water – with candlelit offerings floating away the bad and bringing good luck to lovers. This is the best holiday to observe firsthand. His Majesty the King will celebrate his 81st birthday on December 5th. This is a national holiday celebrated throughout the country and also doubles as Father’s Day. The 10th of December marks the day in 1932 that the country was given its first Constitution. This is also a national holiday. The last day of the month will celebrate the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009. The Thais celebrate the traditional western New Years especially in Bangkok and other tourist areas. That covers the main holidays but no specific elections. Elections can pop up at anytime so you have to keep current with Thai online news. They don’t have much effect other than the occasional bar closure. There you have it – plan your vacation accordingly.

The Best Time To Go To The Movie

Here’s the thing…you can actually enhance your moving going experience by the time you chose to go. Consider these movie situations: Kid’s Movies: If you are trying to take a small child to a kid’s movie it may be best to go on a Saturday afternoon. While the reasoning may be self evident to you it dawned on me one evening when I was trying to take my four year old to the latest Pixar flick. You see, 4 year olds are rather antsy and talkative (especially mine) and when you take them to a kid’s movie where there are predominantly adults in the audience – well the analogy of water and oil is good one. I don’t wish to spoil someone else’s movie experience but I want my child to have a good time without me constantly having to correct him through a movie. Thus, I have discovered that it is a far better thing to take a small child to the theater on Saturday afternoon. During this time the theater is full of other small children babbling and fidgeting. And the rest of the audience is far more comfortable (and tolerant) with the children in this developmental stage. Conversely, if you are an adult who wants to see a kids movie with a minimum of youthful distractions go to the movie any time but Saturday afternoon – weekday evenings are best. Date Night Movies: I am a big proponent of continuing to date your spouse after marriage. For the unmarried – lots of time together is a good thing too. So date night movies should be planned with care. That is, if possible schedule a movie around a bundle of activities planned for the date. Are you planning dinner, roller blading, drinks with friends, other activities? Traditionally, date nights are Friday and Saturday evening but if you can break away, any time is a good time for a date. (Hint: want to see how your date reacts/ interacts with children? Take them to a kid’s movie on Saturday afternoon (above).) Creature Features: I don’t care what you say horror films just don’t have the same effect when you exit the theater before 10:00 p. m.. If you want the whole experience to be spookier its best to go to that horror flick late night, mid week. Rationale: it’s just creepier to leave that late when there aren’t as many people around. Also, its better if it’s a bit cooler out. It leaves a better opportunity to snuggle if it happens to be date night *wink*.

Reality Check On Your Capabilities As A Pet Owner

People often fall for the trap of impulse buying. Impulse buying or buying something based on a whim at a certain moment is devoid of careful thought and weighing of consequences. It really wouldn’t matter much if this sort of caprice is used for buying items like clothes every once in a while. After all, why deprive yourself of buying something just for the sheer joy of having it particularly if you are spending within your means. However, buying a pet which is a living thing requires a more responsible decision from the buyer. When you get a pet and bring it into your home, your primary concerns should center on the aspect of its care. A pet is not something you buy and then leave to let it attend to itself. It requires time and attention which you as an owner are responsible for. You will be a better owner if you choose a pet based on your lifestyle and level of commitment. Dogs have so many breeds that your choice for pet should be more specific. Different breeds have different sizes, temperament, needs and skills. A big, large dog who has exceptional hunting skills may not find a small apartment suitable as a living environment. You will soon find out that a dog that is not happy with his conditions may not be a good companion but a destructive nuisance. A pet’s negative behavior is not the animal’s sole fault, since it is unable to talk or communicate as humans do. Their only way of communicating is through its behavior. Another thing is that humans do the choosing and not vice versa. An educated human choice based on proper information will go a long way in ensuring a better relationship between humans and pets. You are off to a good start in choosing once you determine for yourself the reason why you want a pet. If you are able to answer this question, chances are, you know what sort of pet you are looking for. A dog may be the best choice for a person who wants a companion and spends a lot of time at home. A cat may be good for someone likewise in need of a companion but doesn’t have much time for high maintenance pets. Caring for a bird or fish can provide much fulfillment for those who don’t care much for outdoor physical exercises such as walking. Research will help you determine what breed of dog, cat, bird, fish or even a reptile will work best for you. Involving the other members of the family in choosing a pet will make it a lot easier for everybody to be involved in the pet’s care. A pet is bound to be an additional member of the family. Finding a perfect one will contribute greatly to shared experiences of each member of the whole family. So again before you make the final choice, determine whether you have the time, the money, the physical space and the willingness to provide for a pet’s care and development. Look at yourself and determine whether your physical condition will be equal to the obligations of a primary caretaker. Lastly, determine whether your personality and the animal’s temperament will make a good match. There is no question that having a pet is a big responsibility. Yes, it is a big responsibility but it has its own rewards. Remember, pets can only be good as their owners.

Living With Chronic Low Back Pain

They tell me my diagnosis is pretty common, that millions of Americans suffer with low back pain. I've also heard that next to the common cold, missing work from low back pain is the biggest reason. With these two major known facts, I then wondered why getting the correct treatment for low back pain is so difficult. After being diagnosed with a herniated disc and bone disc degenerative disease, I was immediately scheduled to see a surgeon. The surgeon suggested I have back surgery. To make a long story short, after a lot of prayer, a lot of thought, and after talking to many people who already have had surgery with my same diagnosis, I chose against surgery. After deciding against surgery, I found I was immediately cast in a different light, by my doctor, and the medical community in general. I found my pain was then not taken seriously. I felt disbelieved about how much I hurt. I actually felt like a drug addict when asking for something for the pain. It appeared my physician felt back surgery was the end all cure all to my back & leg pain. To the contrary studies have shown, back surgery may actually cause more pain, complications, and even damage that requires more follow up surgery. Knowing physicians and surgeons are already aware of this, it really makes you wonder why they would put you at such risk. I wish some of these healthcare professionals would just once switch places with me for one day living with chronic low back pain. As a chronic pain sufferer, I'm dedicated to helping other chronic pain sufferers who suffer from pain in any manner. For more information go to: rxscripts4u. com

Life Insurance Make Sure Your Family Is Cared For

No matter who you are or what you do for a living, you should make sure that you have some sort of life insurance policy. However, this is even more the case if you are one of the only sources of income for your family. In this case, you should keep in mind that your family will lose your income should you die prematurely but with life insurance, they will still be taken care of afterward. These are not situations that anybody likes to think about, of course. However, it is always best to be prepared for the future. There are two types of life insurance that can apply to most people. The two policies are both term life insurance and permanent life insurance. While ideally, everybody would be able to get permanent life insurance, that might not be the best choice for you due to the price of insurance. Term life insurance is usually cheaper than permanent life insurance. This is both due to the fact that the term is shorter than the permanent plan and because you will have to pay for this insurance for a shorter period of time. Term life insurance is a good idea if you are only worried about your family for a short period of time. This type of life insurance can be purchased for a different period of time depending on how long you need it. Most people who are going to start a family usually go for the 20 year long life insurance policy that way you'll be protected as long as your children live in the house. One thing to watch out for, though, is that if you are going with term life insurance and decide that you'll need to extend it with another policy later, you may end up spending more money on your monthly premiums. The reason for this is that most life insurance policies are priced based on how likely it is that you'll need the coverage (this is just like any other type of insurance as well). As a result, generally the premium cost will increase as you get older. If you have somebody in your family that you expect to care for during the rest of you life, then you should open a permanent life insurance policy now, in order to save yourself money in the future. Either way, even if your occupation is not particularly dangerous, it is still a good idea to have a life insurance policy.

What Does It Take To Join A Mini Triathlon For Kids

At some points in our lives, we all have wondered if mini triathlon would work for us. Or if mini triathlon lifestyle would suit us best. But as we all understand, the best junction to start with is in our kid stage. Many people agree that triathlon is a sport for the uncontented. For those who would want to venture into other competitions that they believe, would help them to get better. And those who would want to push their mental and physical capacities into the limits. It is after all, a game of endurance. Somehow, after the competition and being able to finish a mini triathlon, the sense of achievement would be enough to create a better sense of yourself. While kid's may not actually understand the full meaning of their actions, triathlon would still prove good in honing their capacities to compete. In fact, the majority of kid racers are not solely after the title or the price that's waiting at the end of the line. They enter because they have a personal race to win, a battle for and within themselves. It surely must take some hard work, pain and dedication to your vision before you become fit for a mini triathlon. Aside from training, you mind and your body must have undergone some preparation and adaptation to the risks involved in a mini triathlon. If you are seriously considering joining your kid in a mini triathlon race, here are some aspects you must work with. Know your fortes and pitfalls. Central to this is to improve both of your child's weak points and strong points. Many can swim well but haven't tried cycling or are great runners yet terrible swimmers. There are lots of possibilities. Only you and his trainer would be able to spot that. Thus, the advantage of taking formal training. Visualize a plan. A workable plan is always the ideal since this allows room for mistakes and improvements. A well planned training schedule will let you become more realistic. That way, you'll get the motivation to stick with your plan since you are seeing improvements. Training requires you to take each lesson in their bite size. Don't try beyond your capacity, unless you have the full conviction that you actually can surpass the hurdles. Master the basic workouts first. Then gather your strength and work on more difficult routines. Work at your body's pace and take pleasure from each experience. Stick with your visualized plan. There would always be a junction when you would stop believing that your plan will work. This arises from a number of possibilities. One good way of keeping your child from training blues is to make each session as varied as possible so as the height of his motivation will always be kept at different paces.

    Is Spy Gear Legal

Many people when they first start determining whether or not they have a need or desire for spy gear wonder if it is legal. After all, spy gear is used to do a great many things, include investigate information that others would like to keep private. Such a use might suggest that purchasing spy equipment is illegal. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Even though some of the things people use spy stuff for are illegal, actually buying and owning the equipment is not. If spy gear were illegal, where would bounty hunters and P. I.s get all of the equipment they need to do their jobs? In order for these private professionals to do their jobs, they need to have access to the right equipment. This means that law enforcement and government officials is not the only people who can buy spy equipment. However, it is important to note that they usually have legal reasons for invading others’ privacy, and you should carefully consider whether or not the uses you have for your gear are legal. The most legal and eligible uses of spy gear involve the uses that protect property and home. Things like GPS trackers in cars and surveillance cameras on homes are practical uses of spy equipment that can help you protect your possessions and your family. Additionally, most places recognize that you can spy in your own home, and therefore it is acceptable to use a hidden camera in various places about the house in order to keep an eye on caregivers, teenagers, housekeepers, and guests. However, it never hurts to check and make sure these are acceptable uses of your spy gear before engaging in these practices. In the United States, as well as many other countries with democratic forms of governments, individual rights are prized. It would not make sense in such cases to deny spy gear to the public while allowing the government to make liberal use of it. This means that it is legal to purchase, and even to use surveillance equipment and spy gadgets. However, it is up to you to make sure that what you are doing with your spy gear is not in violation of the law. (c) 2005 Copyright . spyassociates. com. This article is about: Spy Gear.

Pleasure Gardens In The Age Of Queen Elizabeth

The fruitful age of Queen Elizabeth brought both the planning and the planting of the loveliest English gardens very nearly to perfection. When the other arts of the Renaissance had reached their maturity and were on the verge of decline, garden making began to develop rapidly. Most of the finest houses in England were built at this period. After their erection an attempt to give them fit surroundings was a natural sequence. All conditions were ripe for the evolution of delightful pleasure gardens, which for form without formality have never been surpassed. Both the art and craft of their construction were understood as certainly never before, and perhaps never afterward. As an art this garden making was imbued with the creative as well as the imitative spirit of the Renaissance. Men's eyes were opened, as if for the first time, to the charming aspects of life old and new, past and present. A delight in the beauty of nature as well as in that of artistic invention seemed to develop spontaneously. Its practical outcome was the creation of a style of decoration known as that of the early English Renaissance, which was applied to every branch of design, and finally clothed the garden in fanciful array. Past records, especially of classic Greece and Italy, were searched for information concerning the growth and arrangement of plants and the garden's architectural features. Early in the Renaissance the advice of these classic writers was offered by Thomas Hill and other English authors, apparently on the supposition that it would be followed literally, without considering that the passage of centuries and the difference between Italian and English customs and climate might destroy a part of its usefulness. But the Elizabethan age continued after the death of Elizabeth, and in the seventeenth century the growth of individuality made slavish imitation impossible. Precedent was followed only when suitable, and useless traditions were cast aside. Then systems of horticulture were evolved, adapted to a particular age, climate, and country.

    Wine Cellar Cooling Units

Building a wine cellar can create the ideal environment to store your wines. Temperature is always a major consideration in wine storage and the ideal wine storage temperature is between 55єF and 58єF (13єC–15єC), although any temperature between 40є–65єF (5є–18єC) will suffice as long as it doesn’t fluctuate too much. Ideally, the humidity should be around 70%. If you can't achieve these temperatures in your passive wine cellar then you may require a wine cellar cooling unit. A standard home refrigerator makes a poor wine cooling solution for several reasons. It is designed specifically to store and look after food products, not to store wines. An atmosphere that works well for meat and vegetables is far too cold and dry for your expensive wine. The preferred temperature for home refrigeration is somewhere between 35єF and 38єF (1.7 to 3.3єC) Home – or even commercial – refrigeration equipment is built to cool food quickly to prevent it spoiling. This is achieved by blasting cold air until the desired temperature is reached. Then a cycle kicks in whereby once the set temperature is reached, the refrigerator shuts off. When the temperature rises to a pre determined point, cold air is again blasted. This continuous fluctuating temperature cycle isn't good for your wines. Standard refrigeration equipment is designed not only to cool but also to remove moisture. Wine gives off neither heat nor moisture so you end up with an environment that's way too dry for wine. This will cause wine corks to shrink, which will allow air to get in. Once the air is in contact with your wine the irreversible process of oxidation begins and your wine is ruined! Vibration can also be an issue with a home refrigerator. Wine requires a calm vibration free environment in which to develop so any vibration will eventually destroy a fine wine. Similarly, home air conditioning provides a poor environment for aging your wines, as it removes the humidity from the air which can lead to corks drying out. Additionally, if air conditioning is only turned on at certain times during the day then the wine will become subject to wide temperature fluctuations, which will inevitably cause irreparable damage to your wine. To properly cool and humidify a cellar you will need a cooling system designed specifically for cooling a wine cellar. Wine cellar cooling units can be set at any temperature within the optimum range for successfully aging wines and they cool the air slowly and gently. They are designed to maintain humidity rather than dehydrating the cellar although sometimes additional humidification may be required in extremely dry climates. This type of wine cellar cooling unit is usually installed approximately 18 inches from the top of the room in order to achieve maximum cooling. The unit will also require an unobstructed airflow and adequate ventilation to dissipate the heat generated by the unit. It is also possible to install a split air system into a wine cellar although these units can be very expensive with prices running into many thousands of dollars. A split air system is installed outside the wine cellar and the supply and return air is ducted to and from the wine cellar. This wine cellar refrigeration system works like a central air conditioning system and is similarly quiet. This system would usually include electronic controls and a digital display. There are many options available with split system cooling including humidifiers, dehumidifiers and alarm units. With the addition of the options, a split air system will provide you with total control of your wine cellar refrigeration, albeit at a large cost. If you find that your wine cellar requires a cooling unit it is worthwhile shopping around and comparing brands. There are few bargains, however, you should be able to save money with a little research.

    Privacy Trees 04

Privacy Trees The house I grew up in had a privacy fence that reached all around the perimeter. In some ways I really liked it. I liked the feeling of being sheltered from the neighbors and the outside world. It made both the backyard and the front yard seem so much more serene. There were, however, things that I really didn't like about it. Privacy fences seem a little bit too overt for me. I know it is a matter of personal taste, but even at the time I felt a little too closed off. When I moved into my own house, I wanted something that did the same job, but did it more subtlety. That is when I discovered privacy trees. A lot of people like privacy shrubs and trees. Unless you need a security fence or some other safety device, a privacy tree can do everything that a man made structure can do. It doesn't make it impossible to enter your yard, but it does screen it from outside view and make it clear that no one is supposed to come in. It also gives you a feeling of privacy. For most cases, this is enough. Usually, unless your yard is wide open and welcoming, people won't wander in. Best of all, privacy trees provide a much nicer backdrop than fences do. Don't get me wrong – you can get a nice looking privacy fence. You can make them out of stone, wood, or any other material you might fancy. Stucco fences can be beautiful – particularly with potted plants sitting on top of them. Nonetheless, nothing beats having natural trees. They muffle sound more, they have a beautiful look to them, and they rustle gently in the breeze. There's no better way to help you forget the world and relax than to have a thick barrier of privacy trees between you and everyone else. There are a lot of different kinds of privacy trees, but most of them are evergreens. Evergreens have a lot of advantages. First of all, they are hearty enough to live almost anywhere. Second of all, they stay green all winter long – definitely an advantage. Deciduous trees lose their leaves, cutting down on the privacy protection that they provide during the winter. Evergreens, on the other hand, get even thicker during the winter with a nice coating of snow glazing them. Although heavy snow falls can sometimes tear down branches, this is the exception more than the rule. In general, these trees are very hardy.
