How To Place Home Theater Speakers

You have your television and home theater receiver; you just bought your new speakers and subwoofer and are ready to test things out. It's time to break out the measuring tape because precision is vital to achieving the full potential of your home theater system. For this article, we are going to focus on a 5.1 surround sound system. The term "5.1" refers to the number of speakers and subwoofers in the system respectively. So for a 5.1 surround sound system, there are five speakers (the center channel, the two front speakers, and the two rear speakers) and one subwoofer. When placing your home theater speakers, try to use the same amount of speaker wire for each type of speaker. For example, use the same length of wire for each of the front speakers. This will allow the signal to reach each speaker in about the same instant. I say “about” because there are variations in the wire which could cause the signal to reach one speaker slightly (fractions of a fraction of a second) before the other. By making the two lengths equal, you ensure that this delay remains tiny and unnoticeable. Center Channel The center channel should always be placed either immediately above or immediately below the viewing screen. Make sure the speaker is pointed directly at the audience. Front Speakers The two front speakers should be the same distance from the audience as the center channel. Doing this will ensure that the sound will travel from each speaker to the audience in the same amount of time and reduce the chances of there being a noticeable delay between what takes place on screen to when you hear it. Each of the front speakers should also be positioned an equal distance from the TV on either side. This distance is dependant on your specific tastes; just make sure that the distances are both equal. Rear Speakers The rear speakers should be mounted on the walls on either side of the audience. Their purpose is to provide a sense of atmosphere, not provide the main sound for your home theater system. Therefore, they should not be pointed directly at the audience's ears or you risk over powering the center channel and the two front speakers. Again, distance is important. Try to have the rear speakers the same distance from the TV in order to use the same amount of speaker wire and if possible have them placed equidistance from the audience. Subwoofer Bass tones by their nature are more difficult to localize than the midrange and high notes of the other five speakers. This will give you more freedom as to where to place the subwoofer. However, the location surrounding the subwoofer can greatly influence the bass tones you hear. Placing the subwoofer in a corner or under a table will create a deeper resonating tone as the sound waves reflect off of the surfaces. The placement of the subwoofer is up to you, depending on the type of bass you want. Experiment with different locations and find the one that best suits your taste. Realizing the full potential of your home theater speakers is not a difficult task. By following these guidelines, you will be ready to enjoy your home theater the way it was meant to be heard.

Ethical And Religious Considerations In Physician Assisted Suicide

None of us know what we would choose at the end of our life regarding assisted suicide. It is, therefore, a worthy idea to ponder long before we get to that place at the end of our lives whereby we may actually have to make one. In our lives, our soul does have a path that is chosen for us if we look for it. I would encourage you to follow that one. For the spiritual life is what brought your life into being, and the spiritual life will lead you home. Some terminally ill patients are in so much pain that they would rather end their life than to go on suffering and experience a poor quality of life. Because of physical and mental limitations, people in pain have a much different view on living than people with good health. This altered view makes some choose certain courses of care in a debilitating illness he or she may not even consider in a healthy state of being. Many healthcare providers claim that terminally ill people’s pain can be controlled to tolerable levels with good pain management, yet there are tens of millions of patients who do not have access to adequate pain management in the U. S. alone. Many religious organizations believe that suffering can be used to purify us. This purification can be for the caregiver and for the patient. It is a time to learn and be aware how the body becomes more soul in the process of transformation associated with dying and death. Christians believe that life is a gift from God and God does not send us any experience we cannot handle. Islam states in the Qur’an, “Take not life which Allah made sacred otherwise than in the course of justice.” And “Since we did not create ourselves, we do not own our bodies.” Orthodox Judaism states that “This is an issue of critical constitutional and moral significance which Jewish tradition clearly speaks to. We believe that the recognition of a constitutionally recognized right to die for the terminally ill is a clear statement against the recognition and sanctity of human life….” It is clearly evident that religious influence upon PAS deems such an act as going against one’s Creator, and as such, the need to pray and discern the direction of one’s life and dying should be in the consultation of clerical status of one’s own faith. To override such influence would take an autonomous individual whose beliefs have taken him or her from what can be known religiously to what can be known through them by the same force that gave them life. It is here that terminal patients choose a course of action from the core on one’s being transcending his or her belief in their creator (religiously) leading to an active participation of one’s assessed values (personal transformations) that includes their religious influence, but it is not limited to it as well. Dangers Of Chlorine In Swimming Pools

Dangers of Chlorine in Swimming Pools Chlorine can have its benefits. But, what people don’t know is that chlorine can become a disadvantage especially the moment it comes in contact with your body, inside and out. Despite the dangers of chlorine in pools, owners have a very good reason why they put chlorine together with their water. First, if used on a low concentration, chlorine can effectively kill any kind of bacteria that can live inside the water in a very effective and fast manner. Next, if in higher concentrations, it has the capability to kill algae that can live at the side of the pool. Bather wastes are broken down by chlorine which is known as skin oils and flakes and lotions. With all those advantages, pool owners are looking on the side where chlorine becomes the enemy of the body and altering its every function. By far, there have been reports on the different dangers when in contact with either high or low level of chlorine. Trihalomethanes According to studies, THMs or Trihalomethanes considered as pollutants to the environment and are also addressed to be carcinogenic. It is a result of the combination of chlorine and water compounds which are organic. There is a less chance for these chemicals to degrade and when inside the body, can be found in fatty tissues. So, what about it? Seems harmful right? Wrong. When you start to think about the fatty tissues, you can regard it as a mother’s breast which produces milk. These chemicals are stored in the milk based from the mother’s breast which can also be found in certain fluids in the body – semen and blood. When this comes in contact with the body, it can cause certain mutation that has the ability to suppress immune function and interferes with growth and development of new cells. Irritant Chlorine is considered as one of the chemical compounds that can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. You know that chlorine is doing a very good job in killing microorganisms in pools if you have a feeling of blurry, stinging eyes. You can also spot a different kind of smell that is not normal with ordinary water. Studies show that water with chlorine can cause skin irritation which can be associated with eczema. Water with chlorine can have the ability to damage Vitamin E and polyunsaturated fatty acids that are normally situated inside the body and considered as essentials to the body’s healthy status. Chlorine also has the capability to generate toxins that can produce damaging free radicals. Upon noticing that your skin is highly irritated because of pool water, this can be undone by supplementary diet. Chlorine also has the capability to aggravate some existing skin conditions like psoriasis, seborrhea and acne. It doesn’t stop there. There are still multiple reasons why chlorine is considered as a dangerous compound. It concerns other health problems that are associated with melanoma, bladder and breast cancer and difficult bowel movements. In children, development of early asthma can be of concern. Furthermore, there are studies that show links between chlorine and cardiac anomalies. The dangers of chlorinated water to people are increasing and others are still innocent of the bad effects of it. Chlorine can be good and become potentially bad if not prevented nor taken into consideration.

The Simple 5 Step Secret To Great Fiction

Stephen King says he starts his novels with a "What if?" question. What if a woman and child are trapped in a car by a rabid dog? What if a family pet buried in a Pet Semetary came back to life? What if a young girl could start fires with her mind? I have also heard many other bestselling novelist such as Jodi Picoult, Janet Evanovich and Nicolas Evans lay claim to the same thing. And I have heard others say they just saw an image in their mind, or had a persistent sentence knocking on the inside of their brains, and they just followed that to where it lead them. And while their insight and tutelage is invaluable, when I was a budding writer it left me with another question. What's next? It's all good and fine to have a starting point. In fact a starting point is imperative. But in answering the question of "What next?" you will lift your novel from "What if?" to "Howzat!" So in answer to the "What next?" question, I defined the five essential elements of any good story, whether it's a novel, a short story, a play or a screenplay. Use these five elements to plan your story and you're guaranteed to write a bestseller everytime. Step One: Desire It is essential that your main character want something. Even if it’s only a glass of water, they must have an “object of desire” to pursue. It can be anything from a way of escaping their predicament, or a way to bring their world back into balance, but the key is that your main character must want something. Without that you will not have a story. This “desire line” is the golden thread that will run through your story. For example, in a love story, the object of desire is the beloved. In a story of illness, the object of desire may be anything from a medical specialist who can treat the patient, to a specific medicine guaranteed to cure. In a failing marriage, the object of desire could be the best divorce lawyer in town, or an apartment of their own. It’s your choice and will be dictated by the type of story you are writing. Step Two: Conflict or Opposition You will undoubtedly know that nothing ever moves forward in story except through conflict. So once your main character knows what they want, there has to be something or someone around to stop them. And the most powerful person, or thing, to oppose the main character is the one who can put the most pressure on them and force them to change. It’s critical to remember this: the strength of any story is directly related to the strength of the opponent. If it’s easy for the main character to reach their goal, then where’s the challenge? Where’s the drama? Where’s the struggle for growth and change? The Harry Potter novels kept us on the edge of our seats for seven books and ten years because of the promise of a showdown between Harry and Lord Voldemort. The success of Star Wars hinged on the multilayered battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The Bourne series enthrals us because it's one man against the CIA. In our earlier examples, the opponent in the love story is always the lover. If boy meets girl and they get together and live happily ever after, where is the story? There isn’t one! So the lover must resist in some way. In the case of the illness, the main opponent could be a government department that is withholding approval for a drug that will cure you, or it could be a lack of funds to travel overseas to see that one specialist who can treat you. And in the failing marriage, the opponent would be the other marriage partner, who is either trying to send you broke or stopping you from moving out. Really take the time to explore your opponent. They can often be the most interesting character in the story! Step Three: Moral Dilemma The conflict must build so that your main character is forced into a corner, where they must make a decision that challenges their values. There is only one question you need to ask yourself at this stage, and that is, “how can I push my main character into a place where they feel as though they are stuck between a rock and a hard place?” The decision they make here must be a true test of their core values, and whatever decision they make needs to tip them into the most intense conflict of the story, where they battle the opponent in a do or die climax to your story. For example, in the love story, your character may be forced to choose between love and security, or love and family, as they enter new territory in the relationship stakes. In the illness story, your character may need to choose between health and authority, or health and pride, if they are forced to ask for charity to finance their overseas trip. And in the case of the divorced couple, your main character may be forced to choose between freedom and control, or financial security and love, depending on the scenario you choose. One way or the other, your character has to make a choice and this choice sends your story into its most intense conflict. Step Four: The Battle or Climax You are now entering the most intense conflict of the story and the action here must take place between your main character and the main opponent. This is the classic “fight” scene, or where the great revelation comes out, where you can otherwise surprise or shock your readers. Push it out there! Allow whatever comes out to come out onto the page. Remember you are just exploring your story here. If it goes too far you can pull it back in the writing or the editing. Just remember that the most powerful climax will be one that brings about absolute and irreversible change. It’s a good idea to explore your character’s highs and lows at this time. By this I mean look at how they can behave really badly, as we often do when we are pushed into a corner. Does your character come out swinging, or do they submit and surrender? Neither answer is wrong or right. It will depend entirely on your story. Step Five: Resolution Every good story asks a question at the beginning. Whether it's a Stephen King "What if?" question, or something entirely different, it's imperative that you answer the question here. How can you show your character having learned their lesson? How are they seeing themselves clearly for the first time? What impact does that have on those around them? What is the "solution" to your story? I recommend not spending too much time planning this final step, as it almost always simply comes out in the writing. Stories that you are meant to write have a way of just coming out the way they need to, and too much planning of the ending will make it seem contrived. So those are our five simple steps to great fiction. Have a character who wants something, add something or someone who tries to stop them, put them in an impossible situation, watch them fight their way out and see what they learn in the process! Simple really!

Finding The Right Child Care For Your Baby

If you’re planning to go back to work after your baby is born, child care is a major concern. Your childcare provider will be spending a lot of time with your child, so it is critical that you be comfortable with the environment and the style of care your child will be receiving. There are several alternatives, each with pros and cons. Spend some time evaluating each option, so that you can make the choice that best suits your needs. The first option is in home child care, meaning a sitter, or nanny who comes to your home to watch the child. This is by far the most expensive option, but it has many advantages. Your child will be at home, and will have the full attention of the nanny. In addition, your child will be exposed to fewer illnesses, and you will not have to transport her back and forth on your way to and from work. The main disadvantage is that you have no real backup if your nanny gets sick or wants to take vacation. Another thing to consider is your feelings if your child develops a very strong bond with the nanny. More than one mother has been hurt by the sense that the baby is more comfortable with the nanny than with her. The second option is a small home daycare, meaning you find someone who will keep your child in her home, perhaps with her own children or one or two others. This is a good option if you want your child in a home atmosphere, but can’t afford the full time nanny. This option shares the same disadvantages of having a nanny in terms of no backup plan. The third option is a traditional daycare center. Traditional daycares are affordable, and there is no need to worry about a caretaker getting sick or wanting to take vacation. A daycare might also be more of a learning environment than home care, which will become more important to you as your child gets older. The main disadvantages of daycares are that your child is exposed to all the germs of all the children. Be prepared for the both of you to be sick for a year. The other disadvantage is the numbers of children being cared for. For example, in most states, the law requires one caretaker per eight babies. Now, I don’t know about you, but I could not effectively care for eight babies alone. So, if you decide to use a daycare center, be sure to ask their caretaker to child ratio. Look for one with about five babies per caretaker. Choosing your baby’s childcare arrangement is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Even after you’ve chosen a care option, be diligent about ensuring that your child is receiving the best care. Drop in unannounced at odd times of day to see what’s going on. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and let the caretaker know what’s important to you. It’s critical not only to your child’s well being, but to your own piece of mind.

How To Use Ebay S Promotional Flyer Tool

If you have an eBay store, then you can print off promotional flyers for it for free. You might have seen ones that other sellers have sent you – they’re basically lists of items available in their eBay stores, usually bearing this default message: “Thank you for your purchase! Please visit my eBay Store for more great items and friendly, reliable customer service.” If you know what you’re doing, though, you can really make your flyer stand out from the crowd. How Do I Do That? Go to ‘My eBay’, then ‘Manage Your Store’. Now click ‘Promotions’, and you’ll see the ‘Store Promotional Flyer’ option there for you to use. A flyer will be automatically created using the settings and items from your eBay store, and you can customise it however you want. Be sure to add a border, to make your flyer more attractive visually. Once you’ve created a flyer, you can print it as many times as you need to – it will be updated each time you print it to show your latest items, so you should only print what you need that day. What Can I Do With the Flyers? Well, there are all sorts of uses for promotional flyers. While you could go and hand them out on the street, that probably wouldn’t be especially effective. Most of the people who walk past you and take the flyer will have no interest in your product, and it’ll just be a waste of paper, ink and time. No, as with all marketing, there are better ways to target your flyers. Put them in envelopes: if you’ve been putting business cards or compliment slips in your envelopes, use the flyers instead. It’s like sending out a mini catalogue to your buyers, and including the right items on it might help you make a few backend sales. In your shop: If you have a real shop or business, then you can hand flyers out to your customers to let them know that you also sell things on eBay. At a rival’s shop: This is a bit of guerrilla marketing, but maybe you’re into that. You can try handing your flyers out outside a shop that sells your items. Be aware that this might get the shop’s owners a little upset if they see you, however – you should only give flyers to people leaving the shop, not entering it. Send them to businesses: Look up the addresses of businesses in the area that might need what you’re selling, and send them flyers in the post. Flyers give you another advantage: If someone types your store’s address as it appears on the flyer and then buys something, then you’ll get the 75% final value fee credit for advertising, without even having to pay anything for advertising! Users who are inexperienced on eBay, though, can create a few problems for you – they might not quite know what they’re doing, and that’s never good. In the next email, we’ll cover how to report and handle eBay transaction problems.

The 7 Steps To Successfully Responding To Product Knockoffs

It’s every small business owners nightmare: you find and market the perfect product or service only to wake up one morning and find that someone else is producing cheap knock offs of the same thing. So how do you deal with it? By following our seven steps… 1. Offer a better product It sounds simple, but offering a better product is both the easiest and most effective way to respond to product knock offs. There is always a market for products which improve on the ones that have come before them: make sure you're consistently looking for ways to improve your product, and you'll remain one step ahead of the knock off sellers. 2. Create a marketing edge A great deal of good business comes down to great marketing. This is another area in which it's easy to gain an advantage over product knock offs. The people who sell knock offs aren't interested in building a brand, creating a buzz or researching their market. In fact, they want to spend as little time and money as they possibly can on selling more units of their product knock off. By investing in your marketing, you can gain an important edge. 3. Make quality a priority You'll never be able to stop knock offs completely. What you must remember, however, is that knock offs have one big disadvantage over your product: their quality. Most knock offs are cheap, mass produced copies of quality goods. That's why they're sold for so little. By offering a product which is truly high quality, you'll appeal to those buyers who aspire to owning the real thing, and make it much more difficult for anyone to copy you. 4. Getting a patent does not prevent competition A patent will help you deal with knock offs to a certain extent. What it won’t do is eliminate the competition. You'll never completely eliminate the competition. All you can do is rise above them by making sure your product, service and marketing is the best it can possibly be. 5. Target smaller or niche markets where you can have the edge While you may want to conquer the world with your business, it's often far more effective to conquer a small part of it by targeting a niche which you can excel in. By concentrating on a niche market you can get to know your clients and their needs inside out, and make sure your product or service is tailor made to fit that niche. Leave the rest of the world to the knock off sellers. 6. Adapt to market changes and trends In business, you have to adapt or die. By allowing your business to trudge along, doing the same thing in the same way you leave yourself wide open to competitors who are willing to be innovative and to move with the times. 7. Provide exceptional customer service Businesses which produce knock off products often aren't interested in customer service. People like to do business with other people they can trust: that may not apply to sellers of knock off products, but it should apply to you. If it does, you have nothing to fear from product knock offs. Summary While it's impossible to completely eliminate product knock offs completely, it is possible to respond to them in such a way that your own sales don't suffer. This article provides seven steps to help you make sure that your products and service are able to stand up to the competition.

Affiliate Network Do I Need One

The affiliate has a choice. They can either work with multiple merchants, or they can work with an affiliate network. So why should a marketer want to work with an Affiliate Network? I remember a friend told me a story awhile back. He had built a small website and had signed up to become an affiliate at a stack of different affiliate programs related to the topic of that site. A few weeks after he had set up the site including links and banners from multiple affiliate programs, he turned his attention to other business interests and lost interest in the site. A few months later, he noticed that a few checks had started arriving from the affiliate programs he had joined up with. Not large checks, but amounts for a few dollars here and there. That was his first problem – as he was living outside of the USA, lots of small amounts result in lots of bank charges. (Which makes me ask Why can’t all countries allow affiliates to bank checks at NO CHARGE?) Nevertheless, the checks continued to come in, and although some of them were posted on his wall as they were so small he couldn't bank them, he wasn't complaining as he was making money he hadn't expected. It turned out that his site had ranked high up on specific keywords in a major search engine, and he was receiving a fair amount of targeted traffic for free. A few months after that he decided to log into all the affiliate accounts he had registered with, and noticed that some of them had not paid him as the amounts were too small, some of them hadn't paid although they should have, and some even showed that they had sent him amounts that he didn't recall receiving checks or EFT or paypal or any other payments for! So how does working with an affiliate network prevent this from happening, and is this the only reason to work with an affiliate network? A good affiliate network has a number of different offers which the affiliates can promote, and nearly all the affiliate networks consolidate the amounts the affiliates earn from the various campaigns. This means that the affiliates receive a CONSOLIDATED payment rather than many smaller ones. It also makes reconciling the payments easier, as you simply log into one affiliate network, and can see a summary of each of the campaigns you have promoted, how much you have earned from them, a summary of how much you have earned overall, and how much the affiliate network has paid you to date. Also, once you work with one campaign in an affiliate network, the other campaigns work in a similar if not identical way – the tracking is the same method, the place you pull the creatives from is the same, the way you check your stats is the same – and nearly always, all of this can be achieved by logging into one backend site rather than many different sites. So now you are working with one log in, where you can really get to understand the system. However, even with the best of affiliate networks, things go wrong – but with an affiliate network, you would be allocated an affiliate manager, who will help you sort out any issues you encounter. Not 50 different affiliate managers – one for each campaign you are running, as would be the case if each merchant was a standalone merchant with their own affiliate program – but one affiliate manager for all the campaigns. And by building up a relationship with your affiliate manager, when you do need answers, you have one person to turn to. Of course, once you become a professional super whaling affiliate (the type that lies on the beach while the money pours in – HAS ANYONE REALLY ACHIEVED THIS? Watch this space for a future story about the affiliate beach goers!), you'll need specific campaigns to promote, and that is why, even the best of affiliates belong to multiple affiliate programs and affiliate networks. But this presents even more problems. So my advice when starting out is to choose one or 2 affiliate networks, become familiar with their system, build up a relationship with the affiliate manager, test out the different campaigns they have, and let them help you achieve the success and results you want to achieve.

    Social Media Bring Your Skates

The owners of the social media site, ShoutLife, are all in their twenties. They have sought to create a fun environment for their thousands of guests. Connections are made and marketing takes place as members enjoy getting to know more and more ‘friends’. If you stick around long enough you are likely to receive a bulletin alerting the minions to a group wide event. Recently that event was a roller skating party in Michigan. The date and time was announced for a facility that likely housed around 200 individuals. What about the individuals who live in Australia, or Maine for that matter? How many of these individuals would/could travel to Michigan for a roller skating party hosted by individuals they had never met? There is a strong likelihood that the owners of ShoutLife wound up skating with some of their friends and family. Perhaps a few members who lived in the region showed up, but most of the visitors of this social media site did not attend. The question is, “Did it make sense for the owners to post an event that would not likely draw a crowd?” The answer is yes. You see, for most of us just the thought of trying to gather a global network of individuals to something as simple as a skating party will draw a smile. Not only will we smile, but we will remember enjoyable times with friends in our past. Not only will we remember, but we will come to associate a positive impression with the social network that promoted the idea. Chances are strong that the owners had every expectation that the attendance would be negligible at best, but in a strange way it served to provide a bond with site users who could identify with something that at first blush seems meaningless. Social media provides a sense of playfulness that can help visitors escape the frustrations of everyday life to a place where individuals with common interests can be found and discussion can take place. Social media works because it is a playground where anyone can go whenever they have a few spare moments. The anonymity of social media allows many to discuss thoughts and feelings they may never discuss with someone face to face. Some may argue that social media is feeding into anti social behavior and I suppose this is possible, but it has also afforded shy individuals with the opportunity to interact with others and find that place of common ground where they can express themselves in an environment that provides a measure of safety. A portion of the strength of a social media site can be extracted for use in a business site through the use of enhanced blogging options or social media forums. If you provide the right environment you may be surprised at how many individuals will show up – roller skates notwithstanding.

A Cornish Walk Pentire Point And Rumps Point

There’s nothing that quite compares to a bracing winter walk. During summer, the sea might be more enticing, you can stop off for numerous ice creams en route and meander in shorts and t shirt as the sun warms your skin; but at the same time, it’s hot, clammy, you’re often jostling for position on the busy coast path, and parking at the start of the route can be somewhat problematic. No such problem today. We snare one of many available free seaside spaces in New Polzeath, and our spot provides a great vantage point for reading a newspaper and watching the surfers in the water, before heading a couple of steps away to the Doom Bar of the Atlantic Hotel for a pre walk coffee. Cornwall has a fantastic selection of walks which make the perfect setting for a winter getaway. Why not stay for the weekend and relax in one of Cornwall’s holiday cottages ( cornwalltoday. co. uk/Accommodation/CottageInCornwall. aspx)prior to your walk, and wrap up warm before you head out into the cold. This is one walk that you will be more than glad to have a woolly hat with you, to keep your ears nice and toasty and to stop your hair blowing in your eyes and obscuring the views. Also, as any conversation is stolen by the wind, it doesn’t matter if you can’t hear anything anyway; it’s actually quite nice to be engrossed in your own world for a while. After sitting inside and looking beach ward, it’s great to be heading away from Polzeath, and taking the coast path to Pentireglaze Haven, where the soft sand underfoot is the perfect place for a spot of beach rambling, though we find little aside from small mussels, plenty of kelp, and a cottage nestled at the back of the beach, which we enviably spy through the windows of. Heading away from the beach to climb the hillside, waving goodbye to our sleepy start point, we then return to beach level to discover a small pebbly cove. Tempted as we might be to take the grassy turning to Pentire Farm, we refrain in the knowledge that we will be passing through the farm on our return route. Heading onwards and upwards, the increased puffing is worth it, the path levels out to provide expansive seaward views which include the day mark of Stepper Point and the lighthouse of Trevose Head in the distance. The deserted stretch of sand to the south of Stepper Point is Harbour Cove, usually peopled with bodies during the summer months. Looking inland, rolls of hay sit on the hillside, the lush green of the fields contrasting the grey and somewhat uninviting ocean. Eyes down, we discover a large hairy caterpillar in the undergrowth, and once we’ve seen one, a game of spot the caterpillar ensues; they’re out in abundance today. We pass a National Trust sign that points us up hill to the Tumuli – a prehistoric burial ground, where an abundance of heather disguises what lies beneath. Continuing on the blustery route to the rocky outcrop of Pentire Point, here barren volcanic rock makes up the headland; look carefully and you’ll see gas bubbles in the rocks that formed when the lava cooled rapidly in the ancient seas some 350 million years ago. Newland Rock can be seen offshore, whilst Rumps Point is visible in the distance, like a stegosaurus, sporadic triangular rocks rearing out of the grass headland. As you head to explore Rumps, you will find area of shelter from the wind, although you won’t want to stay too long in these quiet pockets as the views are far more spectacular the further up that you climb. On the unusually shaped double headland of the Rumps are the remains of an Iron Age cliff castle, where a massive triple rampart and ditch system protected an area of around six acres at the tip of the headland. We explored the stone circles that sat within the enclosure, trying to envisage those who had stood in the very spot from which we now admired the views. If the hills could talk they’d have a lot to say; excavations in the same area have unearthed pottery from the first century BC, indicating trade with the Mediterranean area. The large offshore rock behind the eastern headland is The Mouls, which is a breeding site for puffins, gannets and kittiwakes. Once you’re looking to head on, I challenge you not to want to roll down the hills that you have so recently puffed your way up. Carry on your circular route; following the stone wall until you reach a junction and bear right to start your inward loop. Heading towards Pentire Farm, a helpful information board reveals that the whole peninsula is part of a working farm which produces beef, corn and sheep, the latter of which we’ve seen plenty of during our walk. Though there’s not a person around when we pass through the farmyard, there are cream teas available here in season. Descending to your start point, you’ll be able to appreciate the shelter, peace and quiet, before a last uphill stretch towards the car. As we hungry walkers head towards Trebetherick we pass Mowhay Cafй and Gallery where the atmosphere is warm and welcoming – it’s like stepping into someone’s front room. We feast on what can only be described as a delicious lunch before, quite frankly, wanting nothing more than to go home and curl up in front of the fire – with that lovely feeling that only fresh air exertion can bring on. If you would like to visit this region and are looking for somewhere to stay nearby, why not log onto cornwalltoday. co. uk where you will find a wide variety of either self catering cottages and farmhouses or bed and breakfasts to suit your needs.
