Healthy Chocolate Is Not An Oxymoron

Healthy chocolate? How can that be? After all, we've been trained to think of chocolate as a guilty indulgence at best, and as a health disaster at worst. Yet there is a large body of scientific evidence that supports the notion that chocolate is not only harmless, but that it can actually contribute to health and longevity. There's Chocolate and Then There's Chocolate That's not to say that all chocolate is created equal. If you think that those sugary confections you find in candy stores and on grocery store shelves are nothing but empty calories, you're not far off the mark. Chocolate candies are often full of the refined sugars, milk fats, and hydrogenated oils that are important to avoid. But those unhealthy ingredients are masking a dark healthy chocolate that is filled with antioxidants, flavonoids, and amino acids that can contribute to health and well being. Unprocessed cocoa has antioxidants that can slow the aging process and cellular decay, as well as flavonoids that have been shown to be beneficial to cardiovascular health. These cardiovascular benefits include improving blood flow, lowering LDL cholesterol, and reducing blood pressure. Dark chocolate also has essential amino acids like tryptophan, as well as alkaloids like theobromine and phenethylamine, all of which can help elevate and regulate moods. Latest Trends in Healthy Chocolate As the concept of healthy chocolate gains momentum, products are being brought to market that combine the best qualities of chocolate with those of other ingredients. The mixture produces a high powered blast of benefits with all of the intrinsic satisfaction that eating chocolate brings. What makes healthy chocolate different from the kind you find within candy bar wrappers? First, there are no sugars, milk fats, or hydrogenated oils. Second, it has not been subjected to what is called the Dutch process, whereby an alkali is introduced that all but destroys the antioxidants. Rather, it is cold pressed to preserve the antioxidants and nutrients. Third, it is often combined with Acai berries and blueberries to further boost its antioxidant properties so much so that some products give you the equivalent of a half pound of spinach or three quarters of a pound of broccoli in one small nugget. Fourth, the dark chocolate has no trans fat, no wax, and no fillers. Healthy Chocolate as a Weight Loss Tool Unarguably, it's counterintuitive to think of chocolate as being a central component of a weight loss plan. But healthy chocolate without the additives, sugar, and milk fat can, indeed, help you lose weight. Eating a nugget with a glass of water about a half our before a meal can quell hunger and satisfy chocolate cravings. You'll eat less at meals and get a boost of nutrients in the process. Similarly, eating a nugget as a snack is a healthy alternative to more calorie laden fare. The bottom line is that you can incorporate healthy chocolate into your diet without even a twinge of guilt. What a relief and a blessing!

    The Joys Of Refrigerator Cookies

Baking cookies seems to fill the house with a sense of well being and peace. Perhaps it is the smell of butter, vanilla, and spices emanating from the hot oven. Maybe it is the love and caring attention that is evident in cookies. Home, love, and cookies seem to go together. Consider refrigerator, or icebox, cookies. They are the most convenient cookie. Drop cookies are quick cookies; refrigerator cookies are convenient cookies. Refrigerator cookies can be made up ahead of time even months ahead and stored until ready to bake. Baking up those stored refrigerator cookies is mess free, takes little time, and you only need to bake what you need for the moment. Refrigerator cookies are also attractive cookies. Nothing beats the uniform slices and consistent shape of refrigerator cookies. To keep that uniform shape, slice while the dough is still cold and firm and turn the log after every few cookies to keep the log round. If the cookies have a flat edge, mold them back to shape with the curl of your finger before baking. Roll the refrigerator cookies into logs (or blocks) as directed in the instructions then wrap them in waxed paper and aluminum foil. The logs can be refrigerated for a week or frozen for months. When you are ready to bake, remove the logs from the refrigerator to unthaw. It's easier to slice a log that is not completely thawed and the cookies bake fine though you may need to add another minute or so. There are all kinds of refrigerator cookies for you to consider. If you feel fancy, make pinwheels or checkerboard cookies. You can make delicate sugar cookies or shortbread cookies or pecan sandees. You can frost them or squeeze a little fudgy frosting between two for sandwich cookies. Peruse the recipe books or cruise on line and you’ll find enough interesting refrigerator cookie recipes to keep you busy for years. M16 Assault Rifle Adoption In 1960s

So, back in the 1960s, when the war in Vietnam was just beginning to escalate, McNamara ordered the weapon not is modified adopted, in its current configuration, for the immediate question with all the services, in spite to receive reports/ratios noting several insufficiencies with M16 as a service rifle, including the lack of a chromium striped boring and the room, of the 5.56 the instability projectiles of millimeter under Arctic conditions, and the fact that the great quantities of 5.56 millimeters of ammunition required for the immediate service were not available. Moreover, the army insisted for the inclusion of a plunger forwards assistance to help to push the bolt in the battery if a cartridge did not sit in the room by clogging or corrosion. Such a device had been incorporated in the posterior versions of the AR 10, which also had a room chromium striped to prevent corrosion (Pikula). The Colt on the one hand, had discussed to rifle it was a “self cleaning” design, demanding little or not of maintenance. The Colt, the denoyautor of Eugene, and the Air Force of the United States believed that a help forwards complicated unnecessarily to rifle it and added approximately $4.50 at its cost with supply, without the true advantage. Consequently, the design was cut in two alternatives: M16 of the Air Force without assistance forwards, and for the other service connects up, the XM16E1 with the assistance forwards. In November 1964, the army orders 85.000 XM16E1s for the experimental use, and the Air Force ordered 19.000 more. While waiting, the army put another project, the small systems of weapons of arm (SAWS), on the general needs for weapon with fire of infantry in an immediate future. They strongly recommended the immediate adoption of the weapon, so much so that they started to refer to it like M16. Later this year the Air Force officially accepted their first group as the United States rifle, gauges 5.56 millimeters, M16.

Finally Something Green At Banks Besides Greenbacks

Until now, our perception of the occurrence of green in relation to banks has inevitably led us to the conclusion that the subject was greenbacks. Now, we learn, to our watchful pleasure, that another sort of green can mollify our usual love hate relationship with major and minor financial institutions toward the more tranquil sentiment. We learned, with admitted tardiness, that three years ago ten of the globe's major financial institutions made the enlightened decision to comply with what are known as the Equator Principles, which were designed to assure that projects they finance don't harm the environment or the people close enough to the project to watch the groundbreaking. One of the signers of this commendable declaration was an American institution and it was, surprise, Citigroup. By now the ranks of banks that have signed on have grown to forty one, and we find among them the homegrown smacker backers Wells Fargo, J. P. Morgan Chase, and Bank of America. The troupe calls itself the Equator Principles Financial Institutions. And they've just made their principles more rigorous. Now, they will apply them to any project that has a capital cost of over $10 million, down from $50 million. Of course, there are details to quibble about and when weren't there? like really how much are they willing to put green trees before green currency and is their new allegiance driven by reformed character or the increasing difficulty of obtaining permission to dig? But at least when you head for one of the participating banks to accomplish something in relation to your own visions of greenery, you can contemplate their indulgence of the Equator Principles and find some equanimity in your thoughts about how you might think about the institution, particularly on those occasions when you find you've been assessed what seems to you an extortionate fee for a minor blip in your balance.

Homeowners Relax As Interest Rates Stay Put

The Bank of England's rate setting body, the monetary policy committee (MPC), has voted to maintain the official cost of borrowing at 5.25 per cent, following a 0.25 per cent rise in the base rate last month. If the bank had raised rates, which many pundits though was highly likely, homeowners with a typical 100,000 mortgage would pay 63.79 a month more than they did last August, according to the Independent. The rate hold follows official figures revealing that mortgage approvals fell in December, suggesting to some experts that the August and November rate rises had started to take hold. HSBC economist Karen Ward said: "We think the MPC signalled in January that they didn't have any further hikes preconceived and we don't think there has been the data to justify since then," she said. "The ones last year are still feeding through so it's still going to take some time to have its full impact. It does look like things are slowing already." Last month, it emerged that inflation was at a 15 year high, which prompted many analysts to predict a rate rise before the summer. Young people risk impeding their ability to obtain credit in the future because of their reckless approach to borrowing and spending, debt expert and author James Falla has said. He said that young adults, who rack up massive credit card bills but have no property assets, will probably be advised to go bankrupt because there is no risk to their home. Mr Falla, who wrote a best selling guide to debt solutions, said that the younger generations no longer feel obligated to pay off as much as their debt as possible. "They are just thinking: 'Well, the bank shouldn't have lent me the money in the first place so I am going to go bankrupt'," he said. Some commentators have expressed concern that consumerism, combined with a 'live for today' attitude, is pressuring young people to take on more debt, thereby increasing the chance of them being refused credit in the future. Insolvency practitioner Melanie Giles has said that while most debtors feel they ought to repay all their debts, future generations may feel rather differently.

What Not To Eat And What To Eat During Your Acid Reflux Bouts

First things first, what is acid reflux? The more technical term is GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. This is where mucous damage exists due to the production of abnormal gastric juice content in the esophagus. Usual symptoms for acid reflux include heartburn that is persistent, chest pain, morning hoarseness, problems in swallowing, as well as a feeling that there is something stuck in the throat. Bad breath is also caused by GERD or acid reflux as well as cough that is dry. So now that you know you have them, what should you do to help prevent acid reflux? First things first, the most common and convenient way to relieve the symptoms that acid reflux bring are through antacids that quickly and effectively do away with the symptoms mentioned. However, a regular habit of eating appropriately and in the appointed time – such as not skipping meals, not overeating and avoiding acidic food help eliminate acid reflux as well. How should one with acid reflux eat then? Contrary to popular belief, size does matter. It therefore helps that meals taken are small yet frequent compared to large portioned meals at regular times of the day. The logic behind this concept works this way. Foods that are taken in little amounts would allow the stomach to also exert little effort in digesting it therefore requiring less secretion of acid during the process of digestion. So what foods should one eat? Those that are rich in carbohydrates are advisable to be taken in. Such foods include bread, rice, pasta. These types of meals are all easy in one’s stomach and any excess acid is tied up by them. What foods should one avoid? Foods that are high in fat – for instance those that one buys in fast food joints – should very well be avoided. These types of food usually stay longer in the stomach and takes a lot more acid in order to digest them. How should one eat? Try not to forget that over eating is a big no no. Eating too many too much actually stimulates the tummy to secret a lot more acid required to digest the items one is taking in. As much as possible, do everything in moderation. Limit life’s little pleasures Of course, having acid reflux does not mean that one should totally take out and avoid experiencing life’s pleasures. All that is needed is to limit one’s intake of the following food items if total elimination would prove to be difficult: alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, even tea. It is your choice, either that piping hot coffee or the opportunity to let your stomach make and break acid. Remember that anything put in your stomach affects the way acid is produced in them. This applies to all types of beverage also. Believe it or not, beer – everyone’s best friend actually doubles the acid secreted by the stomach within an hour of its intake. What should be your position after eating then? As much as possible, stay upright for an average of forty five minutes after taking a meal. This allows the stomach to do its job the best way it could. However, when acid reflux has set in and you need to lie down, do so with the head elevated about six to eight inches from the bed. All in all, acid reflux is totally controllable provided you take care of your self, your stomach and your diet.

    Cruising For Special Needs Accommodations

If you are disabled or have certain special needs, you can still have a cruise ship adventure. If you fall into this category, your best bet is to consult with a travel agent to find the best cruise line that will accommodate your needs. No two cruise lines are quite alike, so comparison shopping is required when choosing your options. Your particular disability could be the deciding factor on which cruise to take. For instance, not all cruise ships can accommodate wheelchairs easily. Cabins are notoriously small, so you must get dimensions to determine if your wheelchair will even fit inside your room. Luckily, some of the larger cruise lines have specially designated cabins that have wider doorways. The bathrooms are large enough for a wheelchair to roll right inside. The closets are built for a lower reach and the elevators have controls easily accessible for those people sitting in wheelchairs. Some cruise lines will have collapsible wheelchairs available, but it is highly recommended that passengers bring their own. If motorized wheelchairs are in use, you must bring your own charger that is adaptable to a normal 110 volt plug. Part of going on a cruise is experiencing the various ports of call. Small boats called tenders are used to carry the travelers from the cruise ship to shore. Every effort is made to ensure that wheelchair bound passengers get to experience these ports of call. However, the tenders that take passengers to shore are not always accessible or safe for the disabled. If the wheelchair bound does manage to safely get to shore, certain ports of call may not always be equipped to handle special needs. Hearing impaired passengers can also request special accommodations. Some cruise lines will offer ADA (American Disabilities Association) compliant rooms. They will have tele typewriters (TTY) or telecommunication devices for the deaf (TDD). These cabins might come with ADA approved kits which include visual smoke alarms, door sensors so you know someone is at your door and even alarms that vibrate. Travelers with guide dogs or other service animals will have a tougher time finding a suitable cruise. Each port of call has different rules and regulations regarding animals. Your travel agent can check with the Department of Agriculture for each port of call to determine their guidelines. Sometimes the services animals could be denied permission to leave the cruise ship. Special nutritional needs are also accommodated on many cruise lines. Vegetarians have options as do those passengers who require low fat, low salt or low cholesterol diets. Guests with lung impairments that require oxygen can cruise too, but must ensure that they have a plentiful supply of oxygen for their travels. One of the caveats for disabled guests or those with special needs is that you should be autonomous and travel with another companion in case any support during the cruise is required. No matter what infirmities you may have, the cruise line should be notified upon booking. However, with special planning for your special needs, you should be able to have an extra special adventure!

The History Of Caribbean Stud Poker

Caribbean Stud Poker is a variant of poker, a card game with a long and mysterious history. The word ‘poker’ has a tangled history all of its own; it comes from the French word ‘poque’, which itself is a variant on the German word ‘pochen’, which simply means “to knock”. Nobody really knows how or where poker began; some say that its origins lie in a 16th century Persian card game, whilst others believe that it originated in Europe at the turn of the 19th century. One thing we can be sure of is that poker was brought to North America by French explorers, and that it was originally played in Louisiana. Many accounts name New Orleans of 1830 as the place and time where modern day poker was first played. After being initially established, the game quickly spread from Louisiana and soon became a favorite in the West. While we don’t know who specifically invented Caribbean Stud Poker, the tropical version of the game, we do know that it originated on the island of Aruba. This popular tourist destination is just off the coast of Venezuela, and boasts a population of only 100,000. Caribbean Stud Poker is based on the rules of five card stud poker, with the major difference being that players bet against the house, rather than other players. Caribbean Stud Poker was initially played in the Holiday Inn Hotel & Casino in 1988, where the turquoise ocean and beaches of white sand provided a fitting motive for its exotic name. Now known as the Excelsior Casino, this location is still widely popular with tourists and forms the basis of a thriving community. It has recently been the focus of attention once more, with the World Poker Tour being held there in September 2005. In the late 1980s, Caribbean Stud Poker spread throughout the islands of the Caribbean, and it was also offered in casinos on cruise ships in the area. Over the next few years it received an ever growing reputation until, inevitably, it arrived in Las Vegas in 1992. The gambling gurus in Nevada realized that the game wasn’t quite rewarding enough to the player, so they added a progressive jackpot as a sweetener. Their plan worked, and the popularity of the game skyrocketed throughout North America and Europe. Nowadays, it’s hard to find a casino in the world that doesn’t offer Caribbean Stud Poker, and with the arrival of Internet gambling, everybody has a chance to play.

Color And You And Your Wardrobe

When you are sewing for yourself, selecting fabric is so important and selecting the colors to suit you is even more important. Not all of us can afford to have our colors done, but you can experiment with this. When in a fabric store, take a bolt of fabric to a mirror, put it up to your face, more across at your shoulder. take note of how it affects your skin tone and take particular note of your eyes. If it is your color, your skin should look a very good color, you wil look healthy and your eyes bright and alive. If it is not your color, the the 'color' will drain from your face and your eyes will look tired and dull. You can do this with what you have in your wardrobe right now. All colors have undertones, and the color experts have classified them for fashion as "warm" and "cool" or the latest "silver" and "gold" To determine if you are a silver or a gold, place the metals one at a time against your skin and see which is the brightest, that brightest one will be you. If you like a particular color and you don't think it fall into your colors, this may not be true, you may still be able to wear it. Most colors have an undertone, these undertones are what determines whether the color is "yours" or not. Colors have a warm undertone or a cool undertone. If you want to wear that color you love, then find the fabric that has your "undertone" and this you will see by "laying" the fabric on you, by that I mean, draping across you and seeing the result, if your skin takes on a healthy glow, then that is for you, if it makes your skin look sallow and dull, then leave it where it is. You will have a "power" color too. The power colors are mainly black, navy, grey and brown. One of these colors will suit you better than the others, The one you always feel good in, and makes your skin tone and eyes bright and healthy. Many people think black is the all powerful color, not so, if it doesn't suit you it will have the opposite effect. So try navy or brown, once again if the color drains from your face, don't wear it. Once you have established your power color, when you really want to make a statement, go for that job interview, wear POWER. If you can afford to have your colors done, then I would suggest you do just that. Knowing you are wearing what suits you, will give you confidence beyond anything you have known before. I'm not sure if they are still doing it, but Gract Cosmetics have fully trained color consultants and while this is not a plug for Grace Cosmetics, I do know they used to do party plan makeovers. Not sure but you could check out your phone book to see if you have a Grace consultant in your area. A party like that can be a lot of fun too, for you and your friends, The color consultants are listed in the yellow pages too. Have some fun finding your colors, watch your confidence grow. © CTBaird 2006 SewMoreForU

Memorial Day Ecards Select The Best

Memorial Day is the day all Americans remember the brave soldiers who gave their life for their country. If these brave soldiers had not given their life, it would have been difficult to get independence and maintain it. The nation is therefore always obliged to them. Please show your gratitude for the departed solders and praise their bravery. Share these thoughts with your friends and family with Memorial Day ecards. Let me give you few tips on how to get good Memorial Day ecards. Focus on cost, design, size, colors, text, music and ease of sending. Choose free ecards. No use spending money when you get free ecards or greeting cards that is equally good or better than the paid cards. Search for a good website and stick to it. Do not select very large size ecards. They make it difficult viewing. Do not also choose very small ecards. Select flash ecards. Music adds great value to ecards. Listen to the music before sending ecards and send the card that has music that matches the mood of the card. Look for colors that evoke patriotic feelings. Text should talk about the bravery of the soldiers. The ecard should have some running time. The animation should have no jerks and should flow smoothly. The colors and fonts of the text fonts should be visible and not get lost in design. Many of us tend to forget that we generally send only one ecard to one friend. We must choose the best. Spend some time to select the Memorial Day ecards and spread the spirit of freedom and sacrifice.

Your Credit Score Your Car Insurance Costs

It’s certainly no secret today that your credit score goes with you just about everywhere when it comes to purchasing something on time. However, if you think your credit score only comes into play when you are applying for a loan you need to re think that. When it comes to car insurance, many insurance companies will also take your credit score into consideration when it comes to determining the cost of your coverage or even coverage at all if you are applying for insurance. Even with a spotless driving record, this can be the case. You see, for insurance companies, it’s all about statistics and risk factors. Many insurance companies believe that mediocre to poor credit ratings equate to higher insurance risks. So, if you’re not the best at getting your credit card payments in the mail on time you may want to stop and think about changing your payment habits and make more of an effort to improve your payment track record. Whether this is true at all or not, almost all auto insurers use your credit score in the mix to some degree when determining your premium. Knowing this, makes it even more important for you to know exactly what your credit score is and why it is what it is. In other words, even if you believe you’ve never been late on any payment, credit reporting companies are far from flawless. There could be mistakes or even misrepresentations on your report that could cause to have your insurance rated (higher bracket) or even denied. So, take a few minutes (and you can do very easily online) and get your credit report. Or check out your FICO (Fair, Isaacs & Co) score; which is what insurance companies use to factor your credit rating into the cost. A driver with bad credit is going to pay more for their insurance than those with good credit. If you do have bullet proof credit, this is all the more reason for you to shop your insurance around. You may find an insurance company that offers bigger discounts for A+ credit ratings.
