    How Stressed Are You

     

    Everyone seems to have a view on stress, it has become so popular. Are you stressed or does it not effect you at all? Do you believe that managing stress is important, or do you think that it is a 'buzz' word, used as a convenient excuse? Are you living outside your comfort zone? What is stress any way? Basically stress is caused by our need to adapt to change. The change can be positive or negative. If we feel uncomfortable about any new situation, or challenge, then we begin to experience stress. It is not the circumstances themselves, but our attitude to them, which causes the symptoms. As soon as we are in a situation that we feel is potentially threatening then our 'fight or flight' response switches on. Our breathing rate and heart rate increases, muscles tense up, blood pressure rises and adrenaline and cortisol are released into the blood stream. In other words we are on full alert. This is a natural reaction that has been with us since primitive times to get us out of danger. The difference is that after the danger was over, primitive man would go back to his hut, sit in front of his fire and switch off again. Then all his bodily systems would return to normal. These days we tend to be switched on, tense and rushed, all the time. Because of the pace and intensity of the lives we lead, we suffer from increasing pressure of work and never seem to be able to take time to really relax and let our bodies re balance. We are often told how stress is bad for us, and it is true that excessive stress has many negative effects, but if we experienced a complete absence of stress we may not put in the extra effort needed to attain our personal goals and desires. In fact we may not even feel motivated enough to get out of bed in the morning! We can accept that some stress is inevitable and it can also be used to a beneficial effect. We experience many different types and levels of stress in our lives, eu stress, often described as ‘good’ stress, the type of stress you may experience if you won the lottery for example (you may not think that coming into alot of money would cause stress, but people who have been in that position report significant stress while dealing with major changes). Dis stress is when we lose something, or someone, important to us. We feel as if our world is coming to an end. If we constantly experience levels of stress that are too high for us to cope with, then physical, mental, emotional and energetic symptoms will become increasingly apparent. So what is the cure? First take an honest look at your life with the help of our stress analysis pages. Then decide which areas of your life need attention. Begin to take steps right now to help yourself to a happier, more fulfilling and healthier life. Decide on your short and long term goals. Improve your physical health with sports or exercise, this releases stress and improves self esteem. Manage your time effectively, get properly organised! Eat a balanced diet; perhaps include a supplement of 'B' vitamins. Avoid or cut down on stimulants like caffeine and nicotine. Learn to be assertive, not aggressive. Don't take everything so personally. Remember everything you do does not need to be perfect, you are only human. Communicate more clearly with others and yourself. Life isn't an emergency. Keep a sense of humour and enjoy the little everyday things that make you smile and provide a sense of comfort and ease. Most important: learn meditation or deep relaxation techniques, often using relaxing music will help you to achieve this. You may need to listen to a CD or DVD which has been developed to help you to relax, or attend meditation or relaxation classes to learn the basics of the techniques and then make time to practise every day and within a few weeks you should begin to see the results.

    Winning Coaches Know The Secret Of Goal Setting

     

    When asking the majority of people before a contest, whether it be a rugby match or a spelling bee, what they want, they will inevitably say, “I want to WIN.” Who doesn’t? I have yet to meet anyone who competes that says they don’t care if they win as long as they have fun. That was fine when we were six but it isn’t going to cut it now. So, how do we do it, how do we win? The answer that you are looking for may be found in goal setting. Too many teams overlook this factor, which may be considered the most important training tool available to any team. It doesn’t cost anything but time and may be the difference between an 8 8 record and a 14 2 record. The reason most teams overlook goal setting is because they assume that everyone on the team wants the same thing; to win, and the responsibility to win is placed squarely on the shoulders of the coach and so is goal setting. What most coaches need to understand is that every individual on the team has different goals for themselves as a part of the team. I stress individual because everyone on the team is different and they have different attributes and attitudes, which is very evident in a sport like rugby, and can be seen in every training session and game. It is the coach’s responsibility to bring these individuals together as a team and the easiest way to do that is by setting team goals. Let’s be clear: winning is not a goal, it is the outcome or result of achieving the goal(s) we set as a team. In order to get the maximum results from the goals that we have set we must follow a few basic principles; the S. M.A. R.T. principles which stand for: S – specific, M – measurable, A – attainable, R – realistic, T – time. S – specific. In order to achieve a goal it has to be specific. For example; or goal is to win 50% more of our games then we did last year. Let’s use the example above with last year’s record of 8 8, in order to achieve our goal of 50% more victories; we now have a goal to achieve a 12 4 record. Please keep in mind that this must be a goal that is agreed upon by every team member. Also know that further goal setting is required to reach this record; how are we going to get to that record has to be answered, what do we have to do as a team to get there, what attitude is needed, what training requirements are needed, and so on. M – measurable. Can our goal be measured? If we are using the goal of winning 50% more games, then the answer is yes it can be measured by the number of wins and losses we achieve. If we said that we want to play better as a team, even though we can feel if we played better, it isn’t something that we can measure. I’m sure we have all been a part of games when we didn’t play well, but still came away with the win and vice versa, we played great, but lost. Playing better isn’t measurable, but winning 50% more of our games is. A – attainable. Can we win 50% more of our games this year compared to last? Can this be achieved? If your team has a record of 16 0 then it is impossible and can’t be attained, but our 8 8 record turning into 12 4 record can be achieved. We have to remember that everyone on the team has to believe that it is attainable, not just the coach or a select few. Without the collective agreement of the team the goal may not be achieved. R – realistic. The biggest problem most coaches are faced with is the reality of the goals they are striving to achieve. For examples; our record last year was 2 14, to come out and say that our goal is to have a record this year of 12 4 isn’t very realistic. The team must believe that the goal can be achieved or they will not buy into it. We have to make sure that we set a goal that everyone thinks we can reach. If we set a goal that is too high, the majority of our players will recognize this and not put the effort needed because it’s too unrealistic. The mentality will possibly be, “why kill myself for something that isn’t going to happen?” On the other hand if we set our goal too low we will get the same effect, “I don’t need to put in much effort to achieve that goal.” As a coach, we hope we never see this mindset in our rugby players, because it is a direct reflection on us and our ability to help the team set realistic goals. When we set a goal that everyone on the team thinks we can achieve, they will all put in the effort necessary to achieve that goal. T – time. A big problem that arises when goal setting is that we don’t set a specific date to achieve the goals we have set out. Using the example of winning 50% more games and having a 12 4 record seems like the time is already set out for us; by the end of the season. However, to ensure that we achieve our goals we must break them down into smaller goals. For example; after our first four (4) games we need our record to be at the minimum 3 1 in order to have a realistic shot at attaining 12 4. After eight (8) games we need to be 6 2 and so on. We only used one example to show team goal setting, but we can’t stop here. In order for us to achieve this goal we must devise the proper strategy and action plan. It isn’t enough to say we want to win 50% more of our games, anyone can say that. As a coach, it is our responsibility to set goals with all of our players in order for them to achieve their individual goals and to attain the desired team goals. These principles apply both on and off the rugby field. We must set a goal and mini goals for everything we wish to accomplish; nothing will be accomplished just because we set a goal, we have to continuously work towards reaching that goal.

    For Maximum Benefit Phase In Physical Fitness Training

     

    A physical fitness training program is divided into three phases: preparatory, conditioning, and maintenance. The starting phase for different individuals will vary depending on their age, fitness levels, and previous physical activity. Young, healthy persons may be able to jump right into the conditioning phase, while those who have been exercising regularly may already be in the maintenance phase. Factors such as extended inactivity, injury or illness can drop you from a maintenance to a conditioning phase. Persons who have not been physically active, especially if you are age 40 or older, should start with the preparatory phase. Preparatory Phase The preparatory phase helps both the cardiorespiratory and muscular systems get used to exercise, preparing the body to handle the conditioning phase. The work load in the beginning must be moderate. Progression from a lower to a higher level of fitness should be achieved by gradual, planned increases in frequency, intensity, and time. Initially, poorly conditioned persons should run or, walk if need be, three times a week at a comfortable pace that moderately elevates their heart rate for 10 to 15 minutes. Continue at this until you have no undue fatigue or muscle soreness the day following the exercise. After that you can lengthen this cardiorespiratory exercise session to 16 to 20 minutes and/or elevate your heart rate by increasing the pace. If you feel breathless slow down to a walk. The preparatory phase for improving muscular endurance and strength through weight training should start easily and progress gradually. Beginning weight trainers should select about 8 to 12 exercises that work all the body’s major muscle groups. You should use only very light weights the first week (that is, the first two to three workouts). This is very important, as you must first learn the proper form for each exercise. Light weights will also help minimize muscle soreness and decrease the likelihood of injury to the muscles, joints, and ligaments. During the second week, you should use progressively heavier weights on each resistance exercise. By the end of the second week (four to six workouts), you should know how much weight will let you do 8 to 12 repetitions to muscle failure for each exercise. At this point the conditioning phase begins. Conditioning Phase To reach the desired level of fitness, you must increase the amount of exercise and/or the workout intensity as your strength and/or endurance increases. To improve cardiorespiratory endurance, for example, you must increase the length of time you run. You should start with the preparatory phase and gradually increase the running time by one or two minutes each week until you can run continuously for 20 to 30 minutes. At this point, you can increase the intensity until you reach the desired level of fitness. You should train at least three times a week and take no more than two days between workouts. For weight trainers, the conditioning phase normally begins during the third week. You should do one set of 8 to 12 repetitions for each of the selected resistance exercises. When you can do more than 12 repetitions of any exercise, you should increase the weight used on that exercise by about five percent so you can again do only 8 to 12 repetitions. This intensity increasing process continues throughout the conditioning phase. As long as you continue to progress and get stronger while doing only one set of each exercise, it is not necessary for you to do more than one set per exercise. When you stop making progress with one set, you should add another set on those exercises in which progress has slowed. As training progresses, you may want to increase the sets to three to help promote further increases in strength and/ or muscle mass. For maximum benefit, you should do strength training three times a week with 48 hours of rest between workouts for any given muscle group. It helps to periodically do a different type of exercise for a given muscle or muscle group. This adds variety and ensures better strength development. The conditioning phase ends when all personal, strength related goals have been met. Maintenance Phase The maintenance phase sustains the high level of fitness achieved in the conditioning phase. The emphasis here is no longer on progression. A well designed, 45 to 60 minute workout (including warm up and cool down) at the right intensity three times a week is enough to maintain almost any appropriate level of physical fitness. These workouts give you time to stabilize your flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, and muscular endurance and strength. However, more frequent training may be needed to reach and maintain peak fitness levels. Of course, once you get to this level, maintaining an optimal level of fitness should become part of your life style and should be continued for life.

    If I Were Starting A Network Marketing Company

     

    "If I were starting a Network Marketing company, I would say, what's a different group of people that want to hear a story about how to succeed with network selling? What words, phrases and images do I use to help them understand what it is I have to offer?" So opined our friend Seth Godin in an interview with John Fogg this past December (and thanks, gulliver, for bringing this comment to my attention.) Why a "different" group (than those we have now)? For one, too many visible people, including big name trainers, practice and teach the kinds of abusive, promise them anything kinds of behaviors that cause regular people, plus influential business people like Godin and Calacanis to tell us to our face that we're low rent at best, and say they'd never even buy from a networker. (And of course they recognize the recruit recruit approach with its emphasis on the big up front order, as the fast cash grabbing method that it is for too many people doing and teaching it.) So we wouldn't want those kinds of practitioners of NM in the new group, would we? So they can't come. Second, 95% of those who came in with high hopes of making some desperately needed extra income leave disgusted, confused, broke or more in debt than when they came in. They've used up their friends and family, spent their money on systems that mostly benefitted their upline (leads programs, Internet sites, training stuff.) Not happy campers. They join the ever growing biased againsts. Chances are they won't come back, at least not in big numbers. So they're out. And last, we don't want to raid anyone's organization for those that are happy where they are, right? So that leaves them out. So who might be in our new and different group? Here's one that comes to mind: The amateurs, as defined in the previous post: Those who do something for the love and challenge of it, and who therefore have less conflict of interest because they're not saying what they say to pay the bills or please someone else (like an upline or adoring spouse they want to impress). The members of this new group would not join because of any money lure. No. They'd be like hobbyists who don't treat this "like a business" (if that means doing things you really don't like just to make money.) Yes, like hobbyists who squeeze in whatever time they can to do something they are driven to do. The new group I'm talking about forming is NOT in it for the money. Although they'll of course be happy to bank any. It just isn't what drives them. Imagine that. Time out. Adult beverage break. To be continued next post.

    Getting The Baby Nursery Walls Ready

     

    When planning your baby nursery, deciding on paint colors and then preparing and painting the walls is a major part of the design process. You will want to choose paint colors that go well with the theme or design scheme that you have decided on for your baby’s nursery.     Chinese teas have long been considered great for dieters. In fact, many companies have manufactured and distributed these products labeled “Chinese diet tea” for those who wish to lose weight. This is also true when the Chinese diet teas are taken more than the recommended amount. It has been noted that for those first time users who drank Chinese diet teas more than the recommended amount, stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea are the common disorders to occur and will last for several days. When these laxatives are used continually, laxative dependency will tend to develop with bouts of chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain as well as constipation. In the most severe cases, these laxatives can cause fainting, dehydration and serious electrolyte disorders. As noted, these after effects of excessive use of Chinese diet teas are most likely to develop in people who are nutritionally compromised due to rigorous weight loss dieting. Because of these concerns, the FDA is now considering requiring the manufacturers of labeled “Chinese diet teas” to place warning labels on all of their product stimulant laxatives.     Racing Helmet My stepfather is a racer, and he has to worry about having a safe racing helmet. Of all the safety equipment that you need for racing, this is one of the most important.
